    Quad vs. Dual Exhaust

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Please keep in mind this is my first high performance car so please be kind as this may be a dumb question.

I have been wanting an Audi for as long as I can remember dating back to the pervious body style of the B7(2005-2008 ). Of course there were a tons of changes when 2009 rolled around (body style, lighting, engine, exhaust, etc....) I love my 2012 Audi A4 but I am looking in four years to go to an S4 or a A6 when I run out of warranty and the car will still have a good resell value.

Anyways, the question is about the layout of the exhaust. The B7 and B8 both have dual exhaust however they are in different spots on the car. The S4 and I think the A6 have a quad exhaust system vs. a dual one. So what are the advantages of having a quad system vs. dual; apart from the quad looking wayyyy coooooler!!

Not much different besides looks. you can easily switch between quads and dual just by changing the tips at a shop.

Congrats on the car... I'm a big Monsoon Grey fan

I don't have a quad-tipped exhaust, but have dual outlets. I presume there's some advantage with having a dual exhaust over single (more flow?), but I'm also certain there's a downside with the additional weight. I think dual looks better, but that's just my opinion.

Wish I had a better pic:

ohhh, that's disappointing, I'd have to get a new valance as well..... Doesn't sound really worth it unless it comes with the car already.

We really need a G2G. I want to hear your AWE. I'm kicking myself for not going with them in the first place a few years back.

    Re: Quad vs. Dual Exhaust

The amount of outlets really has no performance value. The system for our 4 cylinder is going to be exiting the turbo from a single pipe, traveling to the back of the car contained in a single pipe.

A quad exhaust typically will split into 2 muffler and then 2 tips each. This of course is heavier then a single sided dual tip exhaust. You have to account for the added piping, additional muffler, hangers etc.

So as everyone stated it's a matter of preference and looks. There will be no performance difference in relation to flow or back pressure, rather; only in added weight and a different sound.

I am hoping we helped you out.

Scary how similar that looks to my car.

On topic, dual or quad has no performance gain. Minimal increase in power by adding exhaust. The car will sound better and will flow better depending on what system you end up going with. Some companies like AWE do make a single side exhaust so you would not have to change valences. On the brightside you have an S-line bumper already which opens up more rear valence options.

Jumpy right now between 1-2 or 2-3 in my Tip from time to time. I haven't figured it out yet. I'm going to have Achtuning reflash it because I think the ECU learned something bad from my city driving while getting used to the power. Not sure though.

dual exhaust and quad exhaust both only have 2 mufflers, so the difference is just in the appearance of the tips.

then you can also show dual exhaust with no mufflers as well.

what im trying to say is, the tips are only there for cosmetic reasons, doesnt affect sound, doesnt affect performance. whatever you can do to a quad, you can do with a dual. unless of course you have 4 mufflers with quad exhaust, or something along those line that is more than skin deep

There is no noticeable change in sound or performance going dual and quad. I believe the only different is the aesthetics.
