Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My Avant is equipped with the usless Audi Telematics module and recently the status indicator changed from the usual green to red. I did a VAG-COM scan and found the following fault code.

    Address 75: Telematics Labels: None
    Part No SW: 8E0 035 616 B HW: 8E0 035 616 B
    Component: Telematik USA1 1616
    Coding: 0005033
    Shop #: WSC 01013 444 59202
    VCID: 244D9181E4FBC838654

    1 Fault Found:
    01531 - Emergency Battery
002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - MIL ON

Does anyone know where this battery is located?

It's located in the passenger side floor area. It's a little bit of work to get to if I recall and expensive to replace. You should be able to code it out, which is far easier if you don't use it.

I hadn't even thought of that, I'll look into this option and see what I can find out.

I believe the name refers to their phone integration system, in which Onstar can also function.

So when I bought the vehicle the idiots who did the PPI told me the Telematics battery was a "backup in case your main battery fails"

That is what it does. Or did. They meant it supplied power to the telematics system should the main battery fail due to an accident, drain, etc.

Correct, what it did do. This battery would allow you to contact OnStar after a crash, even if your battery failed or became disconnected. Since Onstar is no longer functional, this battery serves no more purpose. When I replaced my Onstar module on my 2004 with a OEM BT module, the light turned red and stayed that way.

OP, if you want to eliminate the red light, I would get a non-onstar dome light cover. Or maybe even just unplug the LED up there.

No, he really thought it was to start the car. When the code showed up for the low Telematics battery I asked what that battery did, and he started improvising on the concept that it would let you start your car if the main nattery ran out.
