Question RS5 owners, any of you cross-shop the GTR prior to buying or consider the car? why?

I know these cars from the mfr. have different target audiences but just curious:

Both cars have AWD, basically a 2+2 and though the GTR is faster, they have somewhat similar power outputs for a sports car.

Price wise the GTR is higher but again I think most buyers who can afford one, can afford the other with a little budgeting.

Love to hear your thought process prior to buying the RS5 or if you are still shopping?

    thanks!

As much as I love the GTR, it lacks the luxury that the RS has.

I think the Nissan looks like a kit car of sorts, and although this will be my first Audi, the GTR for me was never a consideration.

I drove the GTR on numerous occasions and every time I was truly impressive with its performance. However, I felt like I was driving a plastic box. There's no refinement.

If I was buying it as a dedicated track car, yes, it would be the perfect choice.

I bet very few people actually cross-shop these cars. They are a completely different driving experience and the GTR cost $20K - #30K more.

Nissan's main objective for the GTR's was to create a car with superior road and track performance. Things like comfort, utility and refinement do suffer a bit but most owners willingly accept the trade off.

The RS5 like the M3 is not really exceptional at any one thing but very good at many……... these cars a better choice when needing a vehicle that can be used for any occasion.

Live in a snowy mountain environment. GTR not an option. GTR owner who parks near me wants to swap cars for a (dry/warm) day; will report back a comparo after that happens.

GTR is not an option despite the fact that its AWD system is exceptionally competent and equal to Quattro if not better? ATESSA E-TS systems can go into full lock for 4WD use in the snow...

Just take a look at how many used GT-Rs there are in the 2-3 year range. It seems like many have owned them for a short time and then got rid of them when the high maintenance costs are due or because they wanted something with more luxury/comfort.

I traded my GTR for my RS5. I wasn't planning to track the GTR - it was fun for a year, but the RS5 is more superior in all facets, except for power/speed.

Having both GT-R and RS5, I can tell you first-hand that I agree with most comments above (except for the GT-R not being a good winter climate car). I DD'd mine (~700hp/~700tq) with snow tires through 2 upstate NY winters and found it as good as I've found the RS5 this winter. They are VERY different cars for sure...so much so that I consider having them both an almost perfect automotive experience.

If you ever have a chance to drive a highly modified GT-R on a track or even on the street, the experience will have you forgetting about its refinement issues in a hurry. In truth, it s refinement is only poor relative to exceptionally refined cars like the Audi & Porsche.
