Coil Pack Wiring Harness. How to replace?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I've searhed but didn't really find a clear answer. Turns out my Coil Pack wires are cracked and frayed, and now is what I believe is the cause of occasional misifre. I;m guessing this is the part to replace it with; http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Atw_Harness/ES7679/. Now, is there a good DIY on how to install this? I've read some post but wasn't sure if this part requires, cutting or splicing the wires. Also not sure if special tools are needed to get the connectors on the right way. I'm one that doesn't really feel confident when it comes to messing with the wiring, but I believe this looks like a easy plug and play job but I could be wrong, so let me know if there is something more involved than just simple unplug old, plug in new..TIA

Did you look at the application guide for the part you linked? Because it's not for our cars. I'm sure you probably could use it, but the pinouts may be different.

From my research, many people are using the 034 harness as cjonesgo did. Not plug-and-play, but does look to be a fairly easy installation.

The ecs harness will take a lot of modifying to make it work. The 034 harness is a good product, but you will need to buy a wedge crimper. Or...the stealership will sell you a 'pig tail' that can be spliced in for each corroded wire. I used and recommend the 034 harness.

I just replaced my entire engine harness with a used one when I shorted that section out. Cheapest way to go about it.

The Jetta harness works great. I've used it multiple times on A4's. At the moment, it is the cheapest option for a brand new coil harness (there used to be an entire Jetta 2.5 harness for like $15, which was awesome but now NLA).

Anyway, the only difference is the wire colors. Just match it up pin-for-pin, trim off the extra wires for the speed sensor and such, and you're golden. I recommend using marine-grade heat shrink crimps.

I used the the harness from ECS and it worked fine. It does need to be modified, but its not too bad. Just take your time and be careful. When I did I mine I had it all hooked up and the car wouldn't start, turned out I blew a fuse. So watch for that while your working.

Guessing you didn't unhook the battery did ya? As a precaution always unhook the battery when you are messing with the wiring or electrical sources.
