Convert TT Quattro to RWD for Drifting

    Hi Guys,

We are looking at converting a Audi TT Quattro (europe) 1.8 turbo to RWD.
I've read all the treads regarding this about welding the centre differential etc. This operation is similar to what needs to be done to subaru impreza's etc.

This car will be used for drifting but we still have the following questions :

    - Is there an aftermarket center diff available that converts to RWD instead of welding the diff like there is for other brands
    - Is there an option to remove the complete HALDEX or even mount a new tranny so only the rear axle will be powered
    - There might be someone on this forum who has done this mod and did some drifting with it, it would be interesting to know if the rear axles survived and for how long.

Before you start a flame war about buying supra's and bmw's. been there done that, we just like something different

I'd look into programming the haldex system to lock the center diff.

You really can't mount a new trans unless you rotate the engine to a longitudinal position. i don't know of a transverse engine RWD combination.

Also the transfer cases on those cars are a weak point in the drive train, running 100% of the power through the transfer case will likely blow it up.

Don't think that's a real option, could image the clutch in the haldex unit burning up when using 100% RWD.
Isn't there an option to rebuild an 02m gearbox and only use the RWD part, disconnect the FWD hubs.
Rebuilding the rear end and remove the haldex clutches etc. it sounds doable to me but it looks like no one has went this route.

It would also be interesting to know if someone who went el cheapo RWD actually blew up his/her rear diff/transer case ?

You cannot defeat the front axles in the transmisson as the power take off for the rear is via the front diff.

I'm afraid your on your own for this one. Try it out and report back.
