    Curb rash and ripped tire...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

I tried to search the ripped tire problem, but couldn't find a lot on it... I got some light curb rash, which is fine with me... but noticed a small piece of the sidewall that was ripped. Its about 1mm in depth and around 1cm in length. I have wheel/tire insurance that I bought at the dealership. What should I do? I don't want to make a trip out to the dealership if it doesn't cause a safety concern... at least not yet. Please advise. Thanks!

That should not be an issue. The rim protector on the tire (the part of the rubber which tore) often get chewed up. You should be just fine.

Re-read the terms of your insurance. If you think it's worth it, call them up and maybe send a pic over email. I think you are fine though, as the previous poster said, rim guard section of the sidewall of the tire. No apparent real damage. Just keep an eye on your tire pressure to be sure.

I agree with Mr. Funk. I had the same thing happen. I used some Gorilla glue for rubber as a test and it's held up well and doesn't have a "chunk" out of the rim protector.

This. As long as you don't see any steel or white thread type material you're fine. I had something similar happen on my last car.

That said, you might as well see if road hazard insurance will cover a new tire, that's why you bought it right?

Problem with getting 1 single new tire is trying to match wear with other tires... may be more of a headache than what it's worth...

Nothing to worry about. You can use some glue if you'd like.

It looks like I'm going to be swimming upstream here. I would get it looked at. I know that the gouge appears to be mostly in the lip but it runs up a bit higher as well. I never trust anything that gets near the sidewall structure. If it were my car I'd take it in, particularly if I had road hazard coverage. The dealer may simply turn you around and send you home but next time you're having a little fun on a corner you won't have to worry about your sidewall bulging or letting go.

This just happened to me yesterday and now one of my wheel was ruined. Damn to the city for not cleaning up the work properly so the edge between street and bridge popped out and got my wheel and a bit of tire.
Moreover, I just changed this set of tire less than a month ago.

Looks like my tax refund money will be going to the new set of wheels and tires as I have always wanted ones but couldn't really find a good excuse for myself. The current set will be kept for winter when I want to play snow as they have A/S tires on.

This is really hard for me since I really like the look of Ti wheel but I definitely don't wanna get the same thing though.
