    Brakes grinding at low speed?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Guys,

Does anyone hear their brakes grinding at low speed (10 MPH)? I only have 3000 mi on the car so wear isn't an issue (I haven't tracked the car either). Could it be the cold weather? I don't remember hearing this when it was warm outside.

    Any input would be appreciated

Squeeky brakes can often be cold weather related.....it could also be road salt or other debris getting caught up in the calipers......some on here may indicate that you need to "bed" your brakes properly. You may want to do a search on bedding your brakes since those that don't seem to have similar issues. Just my $.02

Thanks for the reply, but its more like a grinding noise. No loud squeaks.

    Brakes grinding at low speed?

Not sure if its normal but I've noticed this as well. Mainly cold weather and can only hear it with stereo off. Doesn't seem to affect braking performance. I have a b8.5

If you car was sitting outdoors overnight, when we got that really wet snow, you may have gotten a little corrosion on the surface of your rotors, similar to the effect of washing your mags/wheels. The first few miles of driving will eliminate it. The grinding noise is most audible at very slow speeds.

i've heard this low pitch grinding noise (as opposed to squealing) of the brakes at slow speeds when leaving my driveway sometimes on my 2013, so i suspect its normal.

I've also noticed this sound and it has gone away after a short time. I assumed it was just rust on the rotors. I've also had the occasional brake squeal but those are far and few between.

Any unusual wear on the rotors? That should be your first indication that something isnt right. Look for small groves.

My breaks are noisy when it gets below -15c and the roads are gritty and salty. I just go find some clear road and do a couple panic stops from 100mph to clean them up.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I garage the car and its been fairly dry the last while. I'll try a few panic stops to clean them up.
