Misfire on Cold Starts. And NGK BKR6E vs BKR7E?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So My car seems to misfire for a small duration on cold starts. When I first crank the car its fine and As the revs approach 1000 RPM it starts a shake a bit and it continues shaking until it starts to idle and then the shaking gradually goes away and usually can't feel it after that. So i figures id start with the spark plugs and gap them correctly and is that doesn't fix it then more to the Coils and possibly even the ICM. I run stock boost right now on stock everything. What are good plugs to get that won't leave me broke. Ive read good things about BKR7E and some say BKR6E are better. Whats the difference and has anyone tried both that can tell me from experience? As I've said I do run stock right now but I do have a spare GIAC ecu I might go to in the future. With that in mind what is the best gap I can run them at?

You're just talking about as it comes down from fast idle on cold start right? Heavy misfire or occasional here and there? Tip or Manual?

I'm running BKR7E on a Jfonz tune and change them out every other oil change they work well for me and are like $15 for the set of 6.

Right. As it comes does its fine until it hits right around 1000 rpm and then it shakes. I think I'll go with the bkr6e. What should I gap them to? .034?

That's for the bkr7e right? I've been doing some research some people say the bke6e work better with .032? U have any experience what that?

I ran the PFR6Q platinum plugs when I was stock at .032 and didn't have any issues. Went to the bkr7e and .028 after I got the car tuned. I doubt you'll have any issues from the plugs either way on a stock tune.

If the shake is just during cold start and goes away once past the initial warm up I would bet that it is related to cold start fuel enrichment. I would look at the coolant temp sensor, primary 02 sensors, and if Tiptronic the SAI system. Give it a scan and see what turns up.

That doesn't sound good lol. I just picked up some bkr6e plugs. Now just have to let the car cool and decide if I want to gap at .032 or .028
