    Gents,

Working with my aftermarket warranty company and our local Audi Dealership. Car is burning oil and the warranty company suggest using this product: http://www.kleenflo.com/en/productpages/700.htm

The adjustor at the warranty company says this:
"I’m really surprised that they don t know about the engine flush or else they never practiced it in their shop . the engine flush is provided by many different companies . the most common product is the kleen flow / 700. Sometimes dealers don t do this test because the result is not guaranteed, maybe you need to ask someone else to do the engine flush and retest for the oil consumption after.”

    The dealership says this:
"This is not something we do. We don’t have the equipment as it’s not a sponsored practice for Audi."

    Thoughts???

For a b5 s4 I'd say no. If your burning oil I don't think this will help you anyway.

Honestly though, they are probably trying to get you to use that so that Audi will say "WTF did you do to your engine!" Then the warranty company will not pay you since you caused the damage by putting that stuff in. The warranty company doesn't get to tell you how to fix it, they just give you money.

If it's the 2006 in your signature I would pull the plugs and have a look at the cylinders with a boroscope and do a compression test. The 4.2 engines are known to have occasional cylinder scoring and oil consumption issues. I would skip the motor flush more chance of problems than it's worth.

The service rep and I think this is the issue. Maybe I should just pay for the boroscope and compression and get to the bottom of it.

I'm on my phone. Sorry if I posted this in the b5 section (I miss my nogaro)

    This:
    http://motul.speclube.com/products/a...-diesel-300ml/

It's probably one of the only engine flushes that actually works. Have used this before many times and have had oil tests done after to confirm that it doesn't cause engine wear. It has TUV (3rd party testing) approvals in Germany to prove it actual does what it claims to do,. unlike 99% of the other crap out there.

If you are going to use an engine flush, this is the one to use

Your warranty company is pure shit. If you are consuming oil, it's because you have leaky gaskets/turbos/piston blow-by (or something else inside the cylinder). Running an oil cleaner will not help the problem at all, and if there is a small amount of sludge lining where the leak is, it could make it worse. They are just trying to get out of paying. Call them on their bullshit.

I asked that if I paid for a boroscope & compression test, and results showed scored cylinder walls or damaged piston rings, if they would pay for the diagnostics and if the repairs would be covered under my warranty.

    Here is the reply:

"Yes correct, if there is no issue, or an issue not covered under the warranty, you pay the mechanic. And, if there is an issue, and it is covered under the warranty, we pay the mechanic. Also, if there is wear/scoring/damage to the cylinder walls I would have to double check with our adjustor but this would usually mean a new engine or partial rebuild. As for the damage to the piston rings, I’m pretty sure you can just replace these, but again I would have to double check with our adjustor. Pictures to substantiate these damages would be needed. "

My local Audi Dealer already said if it's the cylinder walls, it's a new engine. Audi doesn't suggest rebuilding.

My question to AZ, and particularly anyone with experience dealing with a warranty company: If the company says it's a rebuild, but Audi says it should be a new engine, how do I push the warranty company to do an engine instead of a rebuild?

My wife works for a Roadside Assistance management company and they see these "products" get pitched every week. Its a shady business they (product sales guys) do and they will definitely not back up any damage done by the use of these products. Thier support extends as far as getting you to sign up for thier program. Stay away. Your Audi dealership (and I dont always trust them either) is trying to gently steer you from using these products which is the right path.

These products are like an atom-bomb. An engine that has seen any semblance of regular maintenance should never need this. These are for abused motors that got extremely crappy oil or are notorious sludge-monsters (1.8T, for example). Since these cars require ACEA A3/B4 synthetics (VW 502/505), those oils already have excellent cleaning and anti-varnish properties.

Products like Seafoam, Kreen, and this can do more harm than good -- you'll suddenly loosen up a ton of shit and then it starts circulating through the filter, oil galleys, pickup tray, etc. Sometimes it's better to just leave a bit of varnish. Varnish is not really a bad thing and all motors develop it over time.

^ Exactly. Is usually 1 or more of the following: Poor ring seal, improperly functioning PCV system, worn valve seals.

The cost of parts and labor on a proper rebuild will come out close to the price of a short block I'm willing to bet. The aluminum blocks are finished with a laser hone and it is probably why Audi does not recommend a rebuild.

Definitely push for a new engine if yours is damaged. If you want to be a nice guy a used dealer inspected engine with a full timing service wouldn't be all bad either. It won't be cheap either way but they need to provide the service you paid for.

Alusil blocks can be machined, but it requires very specialized equipment and processes.

This is BS. As Blackstone pointed out to me, if these additives were so good they would come from the factory with it. Rubbish. Buy better oil or something.

rule of thumb i've learned over the years and with several cars. "Only put oil where the oil goes", other fluids/additives dont belong there.
