    Updating transmission and MMI software

    I purchased a 2010 S4 last month and one of the things I wanted to do is see if I have the latest software available. I'm sure there is a nav update and know it costs like $400, only from the dealer. But I'm wondering about my transmission software (I have the DSG/auto) and the MMI aside from the nav. Yeah, I'm pretty anal, I know, but I really like to have the latest. How do I tell what version I have and if there is an update? My car has been serviced by the previous owner at dealerships, but no record of any software updates. I'd hate to waste a trip to the dealer if there's no transmission software updates. Any help is appreciated.

    The only way to tell is get VAGCOM and scan the car. This will give you the transmission revision. Other than that, dealer is your only option. I bought the VAGCOM and for 300$ all included you can't go wrong. Some people say it's expensive, however, for peace of mind and being the enthusiast I am, worth it.

    Have there been transmission software updates for the DSG since 2010 and is it worth paying to get them? What about MMI?

    Yes, there was a TCU update, and you shouldn't have to pay for it. Just tell the dealer to bring the car up to date WRT to all updates released since the car was new...

    What is WRT AND TCU? Sorry, I am new to the world of Audi (came from BMW).

    I have the factory warranty for another year or so, so I guess you're right, it should be covered... Anything else I should ask to be updated other than the tranny software?

    Called the dealer, he ran my VIN and told me there are no updates to my software... He also told me the previous owner had purchased Audi Care, which I wasn't aware of. So that's cool. Also said the nav update is $300.

    I just find it odd there wouldn't be any updates to DSG since it was released in 2010 for the B8 S4.

    WRT=With Regard To
    TCU=Transmission Control Unit (computer)
    ECU=Engine Control Unit
    WTF= <grin> just kidding....

    Your dealer may be saying that your TCU has already been updated....or he could be saying that there' no update to apply if you don't complain about a particular issue. Who knows?

    Is the transmission doing something that you feel it shouldn't be?

    I'm not having any issues, I am just anal and like the peace of mind that I have the latest updates... :) I just got the car and am trying to get it all fixed up.

    Guess I'll wait till I take it in for the 30k service (which should be the 35k, but the previous owner got the 25k service at 20k for some reason)...
