    Tire Pressure Monitor System malfunction

My TPS light is on, but I checked and all the tires have the correct psi. Will and Audi dealership clear the code for free if I'm out of warranty, or should I replace the system?

You should just turn off the system via vagcom.

Do you have the trip computer on the wiper stalk? You can store the new pressures via the menu.

My b7 a4 doesn't have TPMS so I'm not sure but theres a possibility your spare has a sensor also and that is low, have you checked that? Are you checking the tire pressures when they are warmed up? If you have been driving on the tires and then check them they should go about 3-4 psi higher than what the recommended cold tire pressures are on the door. I doubt the tpms light would be on with only that though. The sensor could have just failed. I would have the dealer or a tire shop reset the sensors, it takes about a minute. If the light stays on you might just need to replace the sensor.

If you have a TPMS light and your pressures are good then something has failed and needs to be fixed. There's a reason you have a TPMS system. If you have run-flats, it's hard to tell when they're dangerously low.

    You'll need VCDS

TPMS failed this weekend on my 2008 Avant. There is a difference between the TPMS warning for low pressure, and the warning that there is a TPMS system malfunction. Mine is the latter and the display reads 'TPMS', along with the illuminated (!) tire symbol.
I need to scan with VCDS but I suspect that the batteries in my sensors are dying, or the antenna located in the rear bumper is failing.

I might go ahead and disable it anyway, I'm pretty anal about checking pressures and none of my other cars has TPMS.

to disable the TPMS don't you have to disconnect some module and also modify some VCDS setting, or is VCDS enough?

have you gotten tint done recently? the TPMS chip is located under the back window on the sedans if you get water in there it will fry leaving you with the issue you have.

Good move. The system is useless, really.
