    Unhooking battery to clear DTC's?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I just finished doing some maintenance and fired the car right back up only to be greeted by a CEL. I have the unregistered version of vagcom so I checked it and had a misfire on cyl. 2. I swapped coil packs and found the wastegate hose clamp broke and was probably leaking. Replaced the clamp and tried unhooking the battery to clear the DTC's since I can't clear them with my unregistered version of vcds. I hooked the batt back up and checked the codes and they're all still there! Is there any other way of clearing DTC's without vagcom? The car seems to be currently in limp mode and will not boost over 5lbs. Any help would be awesome! This car is driving me crazy

Not gonna happen. I've gotten ecu's from the junkyard that had been disconnected for months that still had stored codes. There's plenty of shareware/freeware OBD software that'll work with your dumb kkl cable, try monoscan.

You are a lifesaver man! Downloaded monoscan and checked, cleared codes, finally found a map sensor code that wouldn't go away. Looked under hood and found map sensor somehow got unplugged... Plugged it back in and got my beastly stock 8psi back! Wish I could buy you a beer right now.

Disconnecting the battery will only remove the MIL temporarily. The MIL will illumanate once it registers the error is still present. ALL DTC'S stored in the ECU cannot be removed unless cleared or problem is fixed.

I have the VCDS LITE version and im able to clear codes. Are you certain you cant clear codes? I dont even have the paid version of the VCDS LITE.

Yeah man I can read codes no problem in vcds lite but when I try to clear them a popup comes up saying I must register before I can use that feature. Did you download online or use the disc that was sent with your cable? I just have a cheapo blue ebay cable. Regardless, monoscan worked like a charm.

Weird. I also have the Blue Cable. I got the VCDS from ross tech's website.

Can't clear all codes from a scan, but you can clear them from the individual modules.

You can clear codes on vag com lite. U go into another screen and click on engine and clear them individually in there.
