    There are actually a number of differences when it comes to the hardware, fitment, and tuning. Enough to make the R32 and A3 kits that we sell rather different.

    The core support and bumper are completely different, which means that the intake, intercooler, and plumbing that fits the R is different from what fits the A3.

    Also, the A3 3.2L was available with the earlier BUB engine code, which is different from the CBRA engine code found in later A3s and the MkV R32.

    The two cars also have different ECUs and TCUs, which meant a bit more work for our tuner, as well.

    We'll have some video clips of Nate@034's A3 VR6-T as well, which is running 9psi with a single muffler 3" exhaust; pretty much the best sounding car I've ever heard. Ever.

    That is a custom single muffler 3" exhaust Nate built, but a 3.5" can be made to fit and match our 3.5" downpipe.

    It's not feasible for the turbo kit. We do offer it with a high-flow catalytic converter, which will pass the tailpipe sniffer, and the software passes all readiness tests.

    We plan on getting CARB exemption for the intakes, wiht is the only easily visible part of the kit.

    That b eing said, I'm unaware of any CARB legal turbo kits from aftermarket companies. There may be one or two OEM kits from TRD, but that's about it.

    Close your eyes and imagine a borla XR-1 before the rear subframe, then some 3" bends until it exits out the back.
    This was my initial setup with 2 mufflers, have since replaced the rear with piping.

    so I install it then down the road, i need to smog it. i suppose i need to take it off and then get it checked and then put it back on
    that's the problem with aftermarket kits. i'm not going to pay someone off or get it registered in Lake County

    There are no CARB exempt turbo kits on the market for any car that didn't come with a turbo from the factory, be it Honda, Ford, Audi, etc.

    Yet, there are thousands of turbo'ed cars in California alone. As Laszlo pointed out, nothing will show up on an ODBII scan and the car will pass the sniffer test just fine if the engine is in good condition and a catalytic converter is used. California has also abandoned the sniffer test for entirely OBDII based and visual. The kit is also very difficult to distinguish from a stock vehicle, as the turbo is not easily visible. Silicone hoses are not illegal in California, so unless someone has a visual reference of a stock A3 VR6 in front of them, it is unlikely anyone would even know there was a turbo installed.

    What do you do with a High Flow Cat when you have to SMOG? Those are technically illegal for street use in California as well, but countless amounts of people have no issues with it. If the potential for a problem is too much to counteract the perceived benefits, then it is obviously not for you, but there are lots of us who don't feel there is much risk. If you drive safely and don't have a straight pipe, there's no reason law enforcement will ever need to check under your hood, and SMOG is every 2 years.

    For reference, I daily drove my Audi S4 with a single turbo without worry, and even had to pop my hood in front of a CHP before. They didn't notice the gigantic turbo at the back of the motor, only the cold air intake. Nate has put over 30,000 miles on his setup in the last 1.5 years.

    Of course 034Motorsport never condones the use of products on the street that were designed for off-highway use.

    This kit will work for the '09 as well.

    Quick Update:

    We've done a few more Stage 1 installs in-house, including the TT 3.2L and MkV R32 below. Most of the in-house installs we've done are making ~300 WHP with the Haldex enabled on our new Mustang dyno.

    Nate's A3 is currently Stage 2, and we have another MkV R32 customer coming in and going straight to Stage 2. Dyno numbers look very promising on Nate's car, and we will verify the numbers on the R32 when the build is complete. More info on Stage 2 will be available when it is officially released.





    On stock exhaust cars, like the MkV R32 pictured above, 280 WHP is more realistic.

    Stage 2 Update:

    The head spacer has been released, and looks sexy!

    Compression drops to 8.5:1 on the MkV.

    Is nate running a 6262?

    I am contemplating something newer but would want the same power levels from my B5 S4 (450whp), is the tranny the weak point?

    Yeah, Nate's on a 6262. After Stage 1, the next thing you want is a Compression-Dropping Head Spacer, and after that, you'll need to replace the stock plastic intake manifold. We have a very nice IM in development right now.

    The DSG can actually hold up to 800 Nm of torque with proper TCU calibrations.

    After that, cams/valvetrain, and rods/pistons/internals.

    We've made upwards of 900 WHP on the R32 head with a 2.9L bottom end back when our Time Attack A4 was a VR6T, so we have a fair amount of experience getting VR6T setups dialed in.

    We'll be rolling out higher stages of this kit that include everything you need to make the most of the 6262. The good thing is that the kit is designed to be easily upgradable to make use of the 6262.

    Stage 2 will require an Intake Manifold, Head Spacer, and Fuel Pump. We are working on final numbers for that kit.

    Stage 3 will be for upgraded internals.

    Stage 2 should meet your power goals, and we'll have more info coming soon.

    The kit includes DSG mapping that allows the transmission to hold all of the power that the kit can produce.
