Exhaust smell coming through vents at idle.

When I have my heat on and idling at a traffic light I get an exhaust smell coming from my vents so bad that I have to shut it off until I get moving again. I have no exhaust leak because I just got one fixed and they checked everything. In the summer this isn't an issue with the a/c. Still puts out heat at idle and functions perfectly. And to kill 2 birds with one stone when I direct my heat to 2 areas like vents and feet it doesn't put any heat out at all, just wondering if you have an idea for that also.

    Thanks

Might want to check the valve cover gasket.

There are 2 hidden vents(4B0819181B) back by the rear bumper.

When the wind is blowing up the tail pipe, exhaust fumes can enter the cabin.

I have the burnt smell as well.
Kinda smells like someone is using their wood burning fireplace and you walk by there house.

I have a few things to look at in the spring that I know are issues I have.
These may be the cause of the smell.

-I have a coolant leak at my rear coolant flange. Its coolant is sticking to the tranny.
It gels up before it even hits the ground. Its a very small leak.

    -Valve cover gasket.
Last time I changed the plugs I noticed oil in the plug holes.
Im hoping fixing these solves the smell problem.

and here i thought i was the only one getting that burnt candle smell My high flow cat was new less then a year ago and i noticed on the top of it, seem like something has been dripping on it so i guess the culprit would be the valve cover gasket. Whats a vc job cost by chance?

Most likely the smell is coming from leaking oil from the valve cover gasket or cam chain seal & half moon seal. Change both and that should solve your issues.

valve cover gasket and cam chain seal / Half moon seal jobs go hand in hand. Both are easy jobs to complete and are pretty straight forward for DIY'ers.
