    2002 S4 been sitting for 5 years.

Hey there, I'm new here ( just using a buddies account ).

I came upon a b5 s4 that's literally been sitting for 5 years. I'm waiting for the title right now.

Just wondering what pre cautions I should take before starting this thing up ( obviously drain gas, oil, brake, ps, coolant fluid ). Also I know it's a long shot but does the tank have a drain plug? I've heard some cars have a very small one, if not have any of you dropped an s4 tank before?

since it's been sitting for 5+ years I'm sure either the motor has an issue and or one or both of the turbos. If not all I have to do is what I stated about, rims ( has 3 different rims on it lol ), and a driver side door panel.

Before anyone one asks I did call the mvd, they told me there has been NO update since 2007 (no liens and not stolen). So I'm just doing the abandoned title process.

Thanks in advance for any tips/knowledge/input!

Not sure about the process of dropping the gas tank but its probably a good idea to drain and get new oil like you said...but....pull the fuel pump fuse and prime the motor with fresh oil before even starting it.

Change the air filter, plugs. Before you put the new plugs in, squirt some marvel mystery oil into each of the cylinders and let it sit for a while. If you want to be extra safe, turn the motor over by hand a few times (24mm 12point socket on the crank bolt on the front of the engine).Unscrew the gas feed line on the fuel rail, put it into a gas jug and use VAG-COM to activate the fuel pump to pump all of the old fuel out of the gas tank. Probably want to replace the fuel filter after that as well, and fill it up with good gas. Make sure there is enough oil in the crankcase (if you are really concerned about the quality of the engine oil, change it now, otherwise change it just after getting it hot for the first time so that all of the crap gets suspended in the oil and drained) . Pull fuse #28 (fuel pump fuse) and crank the car a few times to get some oils to the turbos and to the heads. Start the car to get the oil hot and cycling, then turn it off and change the oil and oil filter with fresh. You'll want to flush the brake lines as well, as the hydraulic brake fluid is hygroscopic and should be changed every 2-3 years, regardless of mileage.

    Awesome post man thanks!

Anyone have experience pulling this motor? I watched the audi video ( old as hell with the blue s4 ) pulling the motor, and with a lift and a friend it doesn't look too hard.

I just did it my first time. also my first ever motor pull. It was easy. The video helped a bit but I pulled mine with my trans as I was also replacing my clutch/flywheel. since the car has been sitting so long what's the mileage on it lie? Was it in garage or what?

Did you use a lift? Or just a cherry picker and stands?

Cherry picker and stands here. Wasn't too bad but I forgot to disconnect the passenger side ground and took me FOREVER to figure It out. First time pulling this particular motor only skimming over the tutorials took me about 5 hours. It was a little different for me though. At first I pulled the head because all symptoms pointed to a head gasket so...

I'd change the oil prior to starting it. Prime the hell of it though. Replace all fluids an filters ASAP.

you try to spin the motor by hand yet? cars that sit that long tend to lock up.. usually you can break them loose by hand.
