Traction Control Light issue. Lets solve this.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have read lots of threads about this issue. It seems to be an inconvenience but not enough for serious effort.
I have lived with this for months now, and because its very intermittent I don't think much of it.
    But now is the time...
Lets get together and solve it.

    ISSUE
    -------
--Traction control light's up solid and will not go out until the ignition is cycled ON/OFF--

It usually happens at low speed with hard turns. ie parking lots.
Pressing the traction control button has no effect.
Traction control is disabled while the light is solid on.
Intermittent failure, once every few weeks or so.

    CAUSE
    --------
I have heard many opinions including

    -ABS sensors in the wheels
    -Traction Control button is broken
    -Possible bad grounds

    SOLUTION
    -------------
    --INSERT SOLUTION HERE--

Ok so lets work together on this.

I have a VCDS auto scan.
I have never had the problem until recent and this code is the only one that comes up when it happens.
The other DTC's listed here are know to me to not be related. They have there own causes and have been stored before this issue started.

This is what I think is the culprit.

Here is the ROSS TECH fault.
    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...it_Malfunction

BTW it is not related to the auto trans listed on the ross tech link.
I have a 6SP but my cluster was swapped.
I have not had the "00526 DTC" until the traction control issue started.
So I can rule out the Auto trans issue causing the DTC.

    Found this from another site.

"I had my esp light come on all the time when I would press the brake in my car and it was the brake light switch, no symptoms other than esp light would come on. I think you are chasing 2 problems here, the brake light switch from the dealer cost me under $10 and they fail all the time and is easy to change yourself so I would start there. "

    Seems promising :)

Another find that might help others.
Assuming the brake light switch is not at fault.

"Did you try to adapt the steering angle with VagCom? Bad or no calibration will keep the ESP light ON

This procedure details how to perform the zero position calibration for the Steering Angle Sensor (G85) in many VW/Audi vehicles equipped with ESP (Electronic Stability Program).

There are certain test conditions that must be met before doing this procedure:
    Start the vehicle.
Turn the steering wheel one turn to the right and one turn to the left.
Drive in a short distance straight line on a level surface at a speed not higher than 20 km/h.
If the steering wheel is straight during the test drive then stop the vehicle with the wheels pointed straight
Ensure that the steering wheel is not moved again.
Keep the engine running and do not switch off the ignition.

Procedure for performing the zero position calibration for the Steering Angle Sensor (G85) on VW Passat and Audi A4/S4, A6/S6, and A8/S8:

    [Select]
    [03 - ABS Brakes]
    [Login - 11]
    Enter 40168
    [Do It!]
    [Basic Settings - 04]
    Group 001
    [Go!]

This will store the zero (centered) position of the steering wheel. There should be a displayed message that reads: "Steer. angle sender compens OK". If you get an error, it may mean the Login was not successfully performed.

Click the [Done, Go Back] button and you're all set. "

Did you ever figure out the issue with this? I'm getting the same symptoms. The dealership told me it has to do with the brake light switch and they would charge $160 to replace it (less than $10-15 for the part and the rest in labor). I'm going to replace it myself but just haven't gotten around to it..

I bought it from the dealer. It was around 10 bucks.
Took about 3 minutes and no tools to install it.

    Fixed the issue 100%.

There is a DIY on the correct way to install it. Lots of people break them doing it incorrectly. There is a auto alignment thingy inside it and a 1 time break away tab. If you turn it and it's not aligned correctly you have to go buy another.
    I got mine first try.
