    plasti dipping whole car

for those of you who have done this, what kind of plasti dip do you use? how much does it cost for enough to do a whole car? and what kind of spray gun works best?
i have an air compressor but it wont hold enough air to do a whole car without stopping and waiting for it to re-pressurize .

check out Dipyourcar.com I have been watching their youtube videos the last few days for tips and tricks for when the weather gets warm here.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNY9Dx617N8
My understanding that when you get the car kits from them, they actually thin out the plasti dip to make it easier for people, since the jugs of plasti dip in its stock form is too thick and requires thinning, so they do that for you.

I've done lots of dipping (whole cars included), and DipYourCar is the way to go. Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions.

Any Plasti Dipped allroads out there? I was thinking of going a matte blue like the factory sprint. Any color combo suggestions?

I've strongly considered dipping my HG allroad come spring... Something in the Desert Tan family, to go with the green interior
    2003 Highland Green allroad, 2.7/tip

Mods: Nothing yet, aside from a bullet antenna and rottweiler slobber on the rear window... Waiting 'till winter passes. Or not. Who knows.

I'm doing matte white with everything that is chrome in matte black. I'm curious to see how it comes out. I lucked out b.c a buddy of mine runs a body shop and he wants to have a few cars to do photoshoot. I am paying for the 4 gallons +/- of paint. I'll post pics here when I'm done.

Here's hoping! Going to wait for spring and see where I am with the car as far as stance, engine/exhaust, etc.

... Also think I want to wait until I've gotten things sorted out with a roof basket, aux lights, etc... give it a bit of a rougher appearance to contrast/complement it being lowered.

On it's own, yes, it'll come out with a matte finish. The company makes a glossifier though, that actually gives a fairly nice appearance after it's applied

I plastidipped my car flat white, I'm not a huge fan of how it turned out and it stains like crazy. You can use the search bar and find my thread. Should be under "plastidipped my whole car flat white" I think.

apparently to dip your whole car the kit is $400-$500.
that seems kinda expensive for something thats gonna peel and chip away with any little rocks or people picking at it ect.. door dings in parking lots and whatnot.

there has to be a cheaper route to do this.

It's $300 for the whole kit including the gun...pretty cheap if you ask me.

    https://www.dipyourcar.com/product.p...&cat=15&page=1

And it doesn't chip that easily...

As far as I know...there are no cheaper routes that give you as-good results as PlastiDip does.

You might be able to find gallons of dip online cheaper and buy your own spray gun from home depot. As far as chipping I plasti dipped my grills a year ago, drove it to vegas and recently through a 5 day snow mud and ice hell here and they havent chipped at all. plenty of dirt hitting the grills but still no wear.

The plastidip on the front grille of my ctsv has lasted a whole year without chipping or peeling. Its flexiable enough that unless you intentionally pick at it, it's not comming off. In reality, its probably as tough as or tougher than real paint in this regard.

And so what if it chips? The genius of plastidip is that you just whip out a can and touch up.

Im not sure if i would dip my entire car, or else I would be masking shit off like crazy for overspray, something most people dont realize (or dont care to mention) when spraying plastidip. It ( overspray)doesn't come off easily..

x2 the overspray does not come off easily. For less than the price of their kit you could vinyl wrap your car. It guarantees an even finish too.

im good at painting things. even with rattle cans i make an even smooth surface.
multiple thin layers from a distance is key.

and yea i dont think i would like the look of vinyl wrap but it all depends on the color.

Good man. I've never had an opportunity to experiment with real painting tools.

How many colors does dip come in these days? I know the vinyl I use comes in like some 96 colors, matte and gloss.

I've used the rattle can for my bumpers & fenders though. I've been happy with the results.
