Post -Should I buy an A3? Why? pros & cons-

Hi i just sold my B5 A4 and Im looking for something different. I was interested by the Audi A3. Found one wich is a 2007 A3 2.0T manual with only 80 000kms on it and it looks in pretty great shape. The whole purpose of this add is to get some more feedbacks about the car and if I should buy it or not. My brother in law had a 2007 and had tons of problems with it. Did he just got unlucky or does it happens with lots of them out there?!? Thanks for helping me through and all your feedbacks are appreciated.
    Oliver

Carbon build up and cam follower issues seem to be common with the FSI engine.
Just do a search and youll find out common issues. As for the A3 itself, i bought mine because i wanted something with versatility. Sporty enought for a spirted driving, comfortable during long drives, nice enough to take to dinner, and roomy enough for my dog. I have a FWD and just drove it in the snow a few days ago (about 4 in of snow ) and it did fine. Good luck with your search!

I'd by a new (or newer) 4dr Mk6 GTI first. There's no honor/prestige in the A3, about the same as a honda civic. At least the GTI has a "history" and they are kissing cousins. ;-)

    cheers

I've had mine for about a month now. I love it. Haven't ran into any problems. YETT. Hopefully doesnt in the near future, as long as you keep maintenance up and right. Have FWD aswell, didn't mind since its dd and I don't have any major plans for it. I.e BAT or even BT, or even K04. but just cosmetic. Quattro would have been great but wouldn't know the difference for my driving. Even though, I did take it to the canyons with couple of my buddies, and it held up really good. Fast sharp turns and all that. Did pretty good. at least better then my b6 a4. but I'd just say research more, if you like it get it. make sure you find out previous main. records and such and if all falls well. jump on it. depends what price it's at too. but GOODLUCK!

Wow you need to go kill yourself. A3's are great. I've had mine for about a year and I have no regrets whatsoever. I will say this, if you are planning on buying an A3 I hope you can work on it yourself. If you don't know how then when mechanical things go wrong you will be really paying for it at the dealer. I love vw, no doubt, and I love golfs. But there are to many of them. Buy an a3! Join the club

    hey I have my A3 since 2011, its a 2006.

I luv it, never had a problem with it. I changed the cam follower some time ago, it was in good shape but needed a swap. ALso did the DSG fluid.

Nowdays I will do the t-belt. Also down the year I plan a intake carbon clean, anda cam chain tensioner change.

I say go for it. Its a nice car, great MPG, fast, great handling, fun and it has a hatch vesatile enough like a small suv ;)
