question about front window adjustment wedge

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am changing out my front passenger window regulator clips and after reading the diys on the interwebs, I jumped on in. during the removal of the window frame from the door, I heard a metal part drop. After getting everything out I found a wedge at the bottom of my door. The front clip was broken (reason for this job)
and I believe this wedge is connected into the window clip somehow. Found it strange that the wedge fell out, I would think it have a bolt/nut or nutplate that holds it in place.
I could not find any mention of where this wedge connects, or how it is secured. It looks like it could fit on the t bolt clamping to the window
Does it maintain position by pressure or is there a nut and bolt that goes through the center channel of the wedge?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I don't know the answer to this....however....I did run into the same thing doing my window regulator as well - and I ended up leaving it out...

No issues thus far without it...I don't think!

You mean the little aluminum shims? http://i.ebayimg.com/t/1999-AUDI-A6-LEFT-REAR-WINDOW-FRAME-SCREWS-SHIM-/00/s/NzY4WDEwMjQ=/$(KGrHqZ,!noF!Odv)g-kBQGwiyBBsQ~~60_57.JPG
if it's those, they guy between two the door and the window assembly, they're held in place by the torx bolts, they're solely there for adjusting the position of the door so you're not left with a big gap between the car and the top of the door.

    This.

There should be two torx bolts on the side of the door that hold the door frame to the door itself. This shim usually goes between the frame and the door on the bottom. It's to help with fitting the door up and making sure the window seals seat properly.

Ah that makes sense. The pic posted by mr awesome looks spot on. I can see the imprint the shim left on the lower forward torx bolt. I am waiting for the new ebay clips to be deliveried, but thought I would dry fit and see if I got it right. I attached a pic of the shim, does this look right, or is it backwards? I was hoping to see a lip for the hook on the shim to rest on or a channel it would ride in.

I also found a thin metal shim on the aft bottom torx bolt but can see (from the paint) how that lines up
Thanks for the quick responses, can't wait to get her back together.

So is it easy to just replace the clips (orginally green- now white), without replacing the whole regulator?

Dont think it is too bad of a job.

There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.
