if you had to hide something in your car....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Where would you put it? For the purposes of clarity, please hypothetically hide:
    - a stack of cash
    - a mini GPS locator
    - a gift the size of a shoebox

Make whatever assumptions you like as to who you're hiding from, how conveniently you want to get at the object, etc.

Assuming I want to get to it at some point without tearing the car apart, so no stash of cash in the back of the seats or in the tires....

trunk is the obvious place. Can't be seen from outside the car.
    Under the spare tire
in the side panels of the trunk
maybe lift and tuck under the back edge of the back seats then fold the seats up.
    up under/inside the rear decklid
up under/inside the liner of the trunk
maybe make a spot in the engine bay down below the radiator supports on top of the splash pan...yeah, can't get to this quickly.
up under the car on top of a muffler or such area with proper heat shielding.
    drawers under the front seats
in the center console around the gear shifter.

I have those, they are ok for small stuff, but not nearly as big as the B6 ones were.
Also funny how ECS lists them under exterior body

Ya I have used that spot in all my Audi's. In my B6 I would open the shifter surround, stick my hand in there and pop out the little plastic cover under the handbrake, and stick my finger through that opening, and put it deep in the center console.

Also on these cars you can hide small objects in the headliner, you just stick your fingers in between the top of the windshield and headliner on the drivers side, and bam. GONE!

Also if you pull out the bottom of your seat, reach around underneath there is a good spot. Once you get it in close the bottom piece and your good to go.

I have a good friend who's wife used to work at the Queenston/Lewiston US/CDN border. They all do a course on this sort of thing, and get those plastic tools to take out the grommets, etc in your interior so they don't do (too much) damage. And the more you protest about it, the more they will look...

They usually base who they choose to search on how you respond to questions...you know, sometimes the questions seem quite random and what most people don't notice is that they aren't really listening to what you are answering, but how you respond to the questions (facial expressions, tone of voice, etc). And while they aren't supposed to profile people, there's no rule on cars - it never helps if your car looks like something that should get a closer look.

Paperish, lol, I'll bet your car is a magnet for every fat cop/border/dumbass security guy ... :-) that colour, the headers, lol

Just a reminder to all those in the USA looking to hide something in their S4:

If you are more worried about searches than from theft: HIDE IT IN THE TRUNK! Your fourth amendment makes it much more difficult for law enforcement to search your trunk than anywhere within arms reach inside your vehicle. Of course this does not pertain to border crossings.

If you are worried about theft, then the shift boot was a favorite of mine from the old days.

Also if you refuse to let them search your trunk and they have probable cause, they can just impound your car and do whatever they like.

Denying a search does not constitute PC, so they might threaten that they will impound your car until they get a warrant to search your trunk, but it is one added layer that law enforcement will have to go through before they search the trunk of your vehicle.

In college I used to watch the TV show "COPS" with my law school buddies, and we were always astounded when a drug runner with a trunk full of drugs would consent to a search after the law enforcement officer would say "If you have nothing to hide, why don't' you simply let me take a look in the trunk"? The traffic stops were usually for minor offenses (speeding, broken tail-ight) with the suspect giving no further reason that would constitute probable cause in a court of law.
