Why is the H8 battery cheaper than the H7 size battery?

    Hi Guys,

i just replaced my battery, and looking at the replacement options, i was trying to figure out why the bigger H8 (for v8 cars) is cheaper than the H7 battery? I have two stores for examples

    http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...artNumber=true 159.99 (H8)
    http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...9458_351727_0_ 189.99 (H7)

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart-...Specifications 109.99 (was 99.99 a week or so ago) (H8)
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart-...Specifications 119.99 (H7)

why would i not go with an H8 battery over the H7 ? Bigger and holds more juice... unless there is something that i'm missing. I understand there is a 10lb weight penalty for going with an H8 but our cars are pigs anyway so i don't think anyone here is looking out for that much..

i ended up going with the Walmart H7 battery because i didn't realize our battery trays will take either one, but they do!

Those autozone prices are in the realm of a factory battery!

Id guess economy of scale, the H8's are probably a more common/popular size, and thus cheaper. Similar to how 20" tires tend to be cheaper than 19" tires.

I'm rocking a simple advanced auto or autozone battery I got for like $140 or something. I only went with them because its a 5yr free replacement and 8yr prorated replacement. So in 4 years or so, ill swing by and tell them its not holding a charge and I need to keep putting it on the tender, and get a replacement never need to worry about a battery again.

Good info on fitting the larger battery in our battery tray.

I tried doing that with my local place...but now they check the batteries when you tell them that so I never got a replacement...
