    ::The Official Car Wash Thread:::

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
With the winter weather on its way I thought it would be a good idea to start an official car wash thread so that members in your area know which car washes are suitable for their needs. I personally hand wash my car once a week during the warmer months and hate going to car washed however in a few weeks we will no longer have a choice...

Please let us know what car wash you go to, if it is low car friendly, if it is touchless/hand/machine, and a rough estimate of cost. Also post where the car wash is located and hours of operation if applicable. Thank you!

I dont go to a car wash only cuz i have roof racks but I would usually wash my car at home. If its really dirty I would wash the car with dish washing liquid or even laundry detergent first to get off all the BS then use turtle wax ice car wash then the rest off the process. I would even use toilet bowl cleaner on my rims best shit I ever used lol

The problem I am having with car washes is that it usually takes me longer to "fix" their mistakes rather then washing the car myself... however in the winter there is no other choice.

Sonic hand wash in bellerose queens. Track is belt drivin so they don't touch your rims, has an undercarriage rinse, most of the water is blown off by air at the end of the track, and when they finally get it out they blow out all the drippies from the nooks and crevices with compressed air. Also they offer an unlimited monthly service for ~$80 a month. Click on the image

If you live in the Hudson Valley region, you probably are familiar with Foam & Wash. They have locations pretty much all over the Hudson Valley. Now, some of them are Drive-Thru washes, which I haven't personally gone through with my Audi, so I can't tell you if they are low-friendly or wheel-friendly. Personally, I wouldn't go through the Auto-Washes even if they are low and wheel friendly, but thats just me.

However, many of the Foam&Wash locations also have the DIY booths. Generally 8-12 garages with semi-high pressure wands, brushes, and an assortment of different soaps, polishes and protectants which you can make come out of the wands. When I can't wash my car in my driveway(or am feeling lazy), I will go to one of these. The water is warm during the winter, and as long as you stay FAR away from the brush, you can get a pretty decent wash using the water wand.

Definitely give Foam&Wash a thumbs up for the colder months of the year.

That is one BEAUTIFUL R8. I really love that car in red.

This is where I go during the winter when it's too cold for me to wash my own car, I do a full correction in the spring anyway so it's alright.

for the 79.95$ + tax a month you can go every single day for the whole month.
As it turns out I have the flyer in my jacket so here is what that includes:

Exterior Hand wash (they use mitts, but sometimes like to get lazy and use brushes on some cars, i request no brushes each and every-time), windows cleaned, interior vacuum, air blown door jambs, wheels cleaned, towel dried, triple foam polish, velocity clear coat wax, black magic tire shine, under carriage wash, and spray a fragrance of your choice if you choose to do it.
Regularly this would cost 21.95 per wash.

They have an exterior only, and a more basic package aswell.

Here is the flyer page with prices.

Re: ::The Official Car Wash Thread:::

Hands down, sonic car wash in bellrose is the best you will get in queens/long island area.

Belt driven so slammed cars or fancy rims are okay. Literally a brushless hand wash - there are actual guys inside the wash giving you a real hand wash.

Once your car is outside, they go to town on your interior for 20-25 min. Its like a detail everytime you go.

Everytime i go i see exotics and high end cars mainly.

I've had a few bad experiences with my previous Audi. Not just me my friend also took his GTR to get a wash around October and he witness the worker wipe each wheel and then used that same rag to wipe some dried up dirt on the trunk and the rear of the car, causing heavy scratches. I'm a picky guy and I notice every scratch on my car and I hate swirl marks, so I just avoid places like that. I just go to my guy Andrew (big A detailing) 20$ hand wash.

I'd recommend Elite Car Salon in Englewood, nj. it's cheap ~10 bucks for exterior, and all hand wash. i believe they have a contract with a nearby merc dealer, so the shop is usually filled with mercs being washed n detailed.

personally, i wash my car myself all year round.

i go to the Puddle in Ridgefield Park. I think a full service in/out hand wash is $20ish. Spray wax makes it $25. They do great work. I've been there just to fix the swirls made at other shops....

In winters, I either try to do it myself or take it to Auto Bath Hand Car Wash here in Brooklyn (8759 18th Avenue). They do a decent job - not as good as I would have done myself, but fair enough for me to consider if I really want to spend couple of hours in cold water or just pay $30 and be done with it...

Many of the BP stations near me in Brooklyn have self car washes (not covered). I think I usually do $5 for 10 minutes or something along those lines. I pre-treat the wheels first and then turn on the high-pressure water. The one I frequent (in the summer) is 1049 Grand Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211. This one uses dollars, some of them you need to exchange inside for tokens.

Yes. Correct but those gas stations don't have bays. It's just out in the open next to the air machine...

I use the BP stations all the time. I only use their high pressure water and have my own bucket, soap and mitten to wash the car. It makes me cringe when I see the gas station brushes being used..

$5 for 10 minutes.. enough time for me to go through the whole car and go over the wheels fast but gota hustle.

So do you pre-rinse/fill your bucket and then wash by hand? The one near me gets busy on nice days so you dry the car away from the machines. I'm sure it wouldn't go over too well to wash the car and then rinse the soap. The other issue I imagine is I would have wait to rinse the soap off.

There is a place in queens near middle village called Imperial car wash. Its just as good as sonic. Pretty much the same price. belt driven and they only use mitts as well. Both places have thier ups and downs. I usually go to Imperial because its closer.

+1 I went to Williamsburgh Hand Wash 2 weeks ago. I live in an apartment in NYC and don't have easy access to a hose and will use them again. Wide range of services, not cheap but what is in NYC, the owner is a car fan and his crew treat cars with care. I paid for a wash, wax and interior wipe down/vaccumn and I think it was $65 bucks and took about 90 mins on a weekday. The owner said he tracks customers and will give 10th wash free.

For North Jersey peeps looking for self service or touchless try Spotless Self Serv at 424 River Street Hackensack. They have self service bays, a touchless drive through and a regular auto wash drive through. I've used their touchless and while not perfect, did remove dirt and grime and good for a quickie.
