    Polishing Compound

Hey guys. Anyone using Turtle Wax Polishing compound on their S5? I have some and just got a 2013 Monsoon Gray S5, and wanted to know if the Turtle Wax was safe on the Monsoon Gray paint.

Im not an expert, but im pretty sure you shouldnt need polishing compound on new paint. The only time ive ever used it was to refresh old paint and/or remove very minor scratches, in both cases before waxing. If i was in your position i'd just keep the car clean and waxed. Repeatedly using polishing compound will wear on your clearcoat.

Yea, dont use that garbage. Adam's revive or Wolfgang paintwork polish enhancer is what you need.

I know I don't need it on new paint but I'm saying for minor scratches and things.

Mcguires Scratch X is better for touch ups. It's an abrasive that breaks down fairly quickly.

Never, always start with least abrasive and see what results you get. If you lack experience in polishing by machine or even by hand better to leave it alone you can do some serious harm. Here is my 2012 Monsoon Grey after very light polish with super fine abrasive, no where near a compound level. Finished up with sealant and good to go.

Car looks great. So which product would you recommend for small touch ups? I've used to Turtle Wax for years on my old car (2008 Evo) but Mitsubishi's paint sucks so it didn't do any damage and did a good job of getting out any minor scratches (especially fingernail scratches on the inside of the door handle).

You could try the AF Tripple which is a very light polish and wax in one step. If you want to wax after try their Rejuvenate or Tough Prep followed by Tough Coat like I did. These can be applied by hand, although it is time consuming. Menzerna makes very good polishes and they are available in various "levels' of cut. Without seeing / evaluating your car it is hard to say, but less is more, you can always go harder, but can not easily or cheaply put clear coat back. When you use a compound it will require additional steps to refine the finish back to the level you want. Try a "one step" it will clean, polish and protect and see what kind of results you get. Make sure you wash and clay before polishing to remove contaminants. Easiest solution, let a pro like Phil at DD do you car. Can't stress enough the idea of not trying something you are not comfortable or experienced at. Buy a polisher and some supplies and experiment on a junk yard panel or beater car, do not ruin your new Audi please. Hope this helps.

Wax does not polish or refine clear coat

Great wax indeed but does nothing in terms of polishing. In fact wax mutes the flake in metallic which is why I use Tough Coat to get as much pop as possible.

As mentioned, Menzerna makes great polishes. I have kept their intensive and finishing polishes on my shelf for many years. Intensive is great for the tough swirls but is quite gentle.
