    Good price for 2008 S5?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm looking at a 2008 S5 manual with the sports diff and navi. It has 57k miles, but is in otherwise great shape. What do you think a reasonable price would be for the car?

Also, would someone who has carfax access mind looking up the VIN and sending me the report? I can PM my email. The car is priced pretty low, and I wanna make sure it's been in no accidents, up to date maintenance etc.

    VIN: WAURV78T58A028217

    Thanks a bunch!!

2008 S5's do not have sports differentials. Offer low to mid 30's if the car checks out. A local Audi dealership has a 2008 S5 with 49k miles for $38k that is CPO.

What's the asking price if you don't mind me asking? What are the options and do you have any pictures of the car you are looking at?

Thanks for the quick feedback. They are asking $34k which seems low (hence my interest as well!). It is not an Audi dealership so they don't know much about the car. The listing clearly says "limited slip differential". I assumed that was the sports diff unless you guys think that is an error? With the low price, I'm really curious to see the carfax before I go there to check it out.

The sports diff only became an option on 2010 and newer S5s. Is the car on autotrader?

$34k is honestly not "low" imo if that helps. If the title had issues they could not ask $34k I would not want to pay more than $32K.

Thanks, the car is not on auto trader for some reason. When I compare it to the most similar possible cars within 200 miles, the next lowest I see is $38k with similar mileage. As they don't seem to know much about the car (making up the LSD), I wanted to rely heavily on the car fax report and your feedback on the value of the car.

So to revise my previous statement, it is 6MT (premium plus probs?) with navi and carbon inlays. Looks to be in great condition. No sports diff is a big downer for me. It does have the beautiful 19" 5-spokers though. I'd probably keep my A4 and the 33 mpg highway. My other option is waiting 2-3 years and picking up a B8.5 S5.

One last question - any way to tell the nappa upgrade just by looking at or feeling it? I've seen the regular leather and wanted to try and figure it out when I head out to take the car for a spin tomorrow.

Clean, good mileage A5 s-lines 3.2's have dropped under 30K. After 5 years you cannot add more than 2k-3k to go from 3.2 s-line to S5. I would require $32k for my 3.2 s-line but it is prestine+ with lots of nice mods and very low miles. That being said, at "nice" S5 with 25k more miles is worth no more imo.

Meh, not sure I would ever drive it if I had an R8. I would pick up a 993 with the $32k offered lol and tinker with it or even an S4 and have a fast car with 4 doors. If I were hulk and were a baller shot caller, that is:)

Gotcha. So basically $32k isn't quite the deal I thought it was. Especially considering 2008s don't have the sports diff. Hopefully I can get my hands on the carfax before tomorrow morning when I check it out.

Any other problems to be aware of? I know about the carbon build-up and front control arm induced steering vibration.

    Good price for 2008 S5?

That's about it. Good luck! If the title is clean, the car is clean and you walk out at $32k you did well and will be quite comfy financially.

I would ask for maintenance records (his dealer might have all of it if he stuck with them for service). Early S5's had clutch pilot bearings and master/slave cylinder problems, which were/are covered under warranty. If there is a transferable extended warranty included, that would make it less worrisome. If he has had it fixed already (make sure both pilot bearing and master/slave cylinder were fixed), then should be fine. Not all cars were affected, but something to be aware of. For reference, I had a 2008 S5, and replaced the pilot bearing first time, then happened again and replaced both pilot bearing and master/slave cylinder second time. If not for warranty, would be $$$.

I'd say 31K-33.5K for non CPO 2008-2009 S5's with 50Kish in miles. Add about 2K for CPO(35-36.5K after you talk them down). At that price your getting a solid deal.

Look around the country. S5's aren't usually owned by morons so many of them have been taking care of very well from day one.
