    power windows not working

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
hello, have an audi a4 b6 model, and all power windows stopped working. I checked fuses, door wires, the wires from the comfort module and I found nothing.
central locking work, door lamps work , foot lamp too.
I did a test VAG-COM, but I did not found errors.
I searched the forum but nothing helped me
same thing happened in the past but recovered itself after few hours.

Now I'm stuck with all the windows blocked and can not find any problems.

    some advices?

    Thanks a lot

Well not the switches then. I assume the door is getting power if the other components are functioning (although I am not sure if there are more than one live wires feeding the door)--I'd think its a motor burnout issue. Time for a used motor from a donor car. Can you remove wires and feed it some juice to check?

I've had it happen once... I checked and checked and found nothing wrong anywhere. I let it sit over night, in the morning still nothing. I disconnect the battery waited 5 minutes and reconnected it, everything worked and hasn't happened since. I've noticed our cars throw tantrums sometimes and you have to treat them like a child, let them sit in time out for a bit and try again... sometimes it works other times you have to use more discipline. Good luck hope that helps

Did you try each window switch, or just the ones on the driver door?

I tried all the switches on all doors and nothing. If I get down the driver's door module and connect the motor to power is ok.

I will try to disconnect the battery for a while and then see if anything changes.

I use VAG-COM measuring blocks and when pressed switches, VAG-COM shows manually open or auto open. So there is contact between door modules.

    what can I check next?

    Thanks to all

Could it be the master switch going bad? and registering as if you have the windows locked?

    hello again
I tried disconnecting the battery but nothing happened again.
I remembered only that the problem occurred when making a diagnosis with VAG-COM. I was in the car, run the VAG-COM and opened the the window to smoke a cigarette. After I finished the test I disconnected interface and wanted to close the window but I could not.
I took off motor window and got up the window manually
    something strange in all this.

When this happened in the past, I was the same with the VAG-COM to look why not go heating in the passenger seat. But the next day I noticed that I could go down the window again. This time not happens and it's already been a week since

Can the VAG-COM software to block something?

    thanks

Sounds like a broken wire in the drivers door jamb. Using VCDS Measuring blocks you should be able to read the state of each power winow switch- see if any of the switches are even registering a signal, eg; up/ down or nothing.
A possible second guess is the CCM failure.
I might be mistaken, but I think if the wire in to the drivers master switch breaks then none of the windows will work.

    hi rollerton,

i try VCDS Measuring blocks and i can read the state of each power winow switch. All are okay.
I wonder if it's a coincidence that they stopped when I connect the VCDS.
CCM I think it works, closing works, the lights work, windows just stopped after a diagnosis with VDCS.
    any other suggestions?
    thanks

I recently took apart my driver side front and rear doors to pull the windows out and when I put them back in and plugged the motors back in, I cannot roll down any of the 4 windows or the sunroof. In VCDS, I am able to see the switching working when i assert/de-assert them. I checked the door harness wiring and 3 wires had cracked insulation but the wires were still in tact and showed voltage. Does anyone have any idea of whats going on??

chances are you have a broken wire if there is cracked insulation. At the very least a a high impedence from a crappy connection which will cause all kinds of gremlins in the wiring (like the appearance of a good connection but not working).

Back from the dead, I have a similar issue. My passenger front window will work numerous times and then I come back later in the day and get in the car and it wont move. When the window does work, it is quiet as can be and that would lead me to think it is not the regulator. I have also replaced drivers master and passenger switches but the problem still persists. I actually bought a used motor as well and it was still not going down. I honestly have no clue why this is happening. It is so sporadic that it is hard to pinpoint a reason for this. It isn't a nusance but it can be frustrating especially when I want to vent the car of it's 100 degree air on the hot day like today! Any tips will be mucho appreciate, thanks homies!

Same issue here... Been stuck like this for a week now. All fuses, relays and wiring is good. I had the ccm tested by an audi Indi, and all checks out. At a total loss.

Yep, they checked out fine. It is like they are just not getting power for some reason, but all fuses and wiring is fine.

Sounds like the relays in the ccm may be bad. Checking the module with a pc wouldn't show this.

So yesterday without warning my car started making a loud BEEEEEP from the back by the fuel fill.

Then the windows stopped working. The fuel fill wouldn't open. The key fob wouldn't lock the car anymore.

The tone stopped. The fuel fill still won't open (manual release) and none of the window switches operate the windows.

Seems similar to what you're looking at here. Anyone have ideas of where to check, what to reset?

Well drat. I got the carpet up and there's water down there and the CCM was clicking. The water got into the box for the device too so I popped it out of there and got the circuit board out of the case. Fortunately, the water inside the CCM was pretty minimal. The corrosion was almost entirely on the circuit side, the component side was immaculate.

So I'm taking a pencil eraser, kebab skewers, WD40 and patience and removing all of the corrosion spots and I'm hoping that nothing burned out when it shorted out. Wish me luck.

Now I'm wondering where the water came from. My best guess is a plugged AC condensate drain. The AC has been running these last few weeks. So I need to go hunting to find that while also getting the water out and getting it all dried up. It's supposed to pour rain later today just to make matters more interesting.

Well damn. I must be living right.

Cleaning the board up, I really had to get in there with the kebab skewers to dig up some of the corrosion between solder joints, and spraying the harness down with WD40 worked the magic. My CCM is back in business. I've put the board back in the housing and then run a bead of permatex black around the seam to seal that up tight. I'm going to liberally apply diaelectric grease to the connectors before refitting them once the permatex is dry and also seal up the wiring run into the water tight case housing the connectors and CCM. It has a nice rubber seal but the wiring harness passes through a large grommet. VAG applied some RTV or silicone or something to the wiring at the grommet but did a piss poor job on quality control and it's leaky.

Honestly, this is clearly a manufacturing defect. VAG seems to have understood there was the potential for moisture and made efforts to seal the housing against moisture. But their efforts were sloppy at the wiring harness penetration and consequently it didn't work and water can enter the waterproof housing easily. Questionable placement of the component too I might add but the clear defect here is the poor job sealing the wiring harness against moisture leaks.

    - - - Updated - - -

I still need to find the AC condensate drains and hook a shop vac to them and assure the are clear and free.

I had a chance to tear down an '07 A6 at a junk yard recently and intended to grab the ECM cover to replace the broken-and-patched cover on my A4. Low and behold the A6 had a completely redesigned ECM housing that included rearchitecting the firewall entirely so that the ECM cover was directly accessible without removing the wipers, did not sit over a wiring run in the firewall and did not have the windscreen water runoff pouring over the cover.

Given that the A4 and A6 have the same engine and virtually the same feature set I'm going to guess someone noticed this insane design "feature" and fixed it in the redesign.

    Hi,
Did you find the issue ?
I am in the same situation.
Before the windows completly stopped working it happend around 4 times to either not open or not getting it up , they started working after around 30 min of driving.
When they stopped working for good , I left my home , after 10 min I tried to open , no response , after another 20 min they worked fine while running the car wheels . When I stopped for parking to get the entrance ticket i pressed down the button, the window responded but after that it did not come up anymore. From that point after getting home i manually got it up but could not get down anymore so all windows blocked up now.
I scanned it with vcds, everything is clean, no errors.
I checked fuses, continuouity of wires, main controls on the doors are lighten but none is operating.
    I woul appreciate any guidance.
    Thank you
