Angry HELP!!! Seized Caliper Carrier Slide Pin!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I was going about a routine rear brake pad change yesterday. Got the passenger side done no problem. When it came to the drivers side, I first started encountering problems when the upper bolt on the caliper carrier wouldn't turn. After a few hours of heat and banging, I was able to remove the bolt and caliper. The boot is torn on the small sliding pin and it is seized in place. The inside brake pad is ground to nothing whereas the others were only 50% worn. I think its been dragging for quite some time. I sprayed a bunch of wd40 in there to try to loosen it over night and its still seized today. I want to salvage the pin so I don't have to trash the carrier. I'll need this when its moving again (http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...r=%20443698470). Any suggestions on how to get the pin moving? I'm out of ideas and my car is on stands in my driveway.

FWIW this is the part I'm talking about:

Just from th pics of those carriers they have been untouched for a long time....
Before attempting to remove bolts and what nots on brake systems...Always spray the bolts with PB Blaster to loosen them up, if they are frozen it is really easy to overtorque and snap them off.
I did that long ago on a Scirocco...The solution was not fun at all .
Spray th bolts and let them sit preferably for a few hours if not overnight....

WD40 has kind've become inferior in the whole "Rusty bolt" case. PB Blaster works ten times as well, and you'll be hard to find someone who doesn't swear by it here.

WD-40 is only really a lubricant. You need PB Blaster and maybe bang the caliper with a hammer in hopes knocking the ruse loose a bit (basically cracking it's hold). I personally would have just sourced a caliper with sliding pin from someone parting their car if I could not get it off in less than 2 days. Some things just are not worth the hassle to me.

I bought liquid wrench, there was no PB Blaster at my local hardware store. I've been squirting a bunch on periodically throughout the day in combination with a heat gun and whole lot of hammer banging. It hasn't freed up yet but hopefully it will overnight. If not.....

Youre gonna need more than a blow dryer for heat. Not saying you gotta use a cutting torch but a propane torch should help quite a bit. You need real heat

I asked TyrolSport about offering an upgraded pin for the rears, similar to their fronts:

I'll bump this thread, mine are starting to rattle again.
