thinking of powdercoating my stock wheels...bronze

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
hey guys ive got a laser red s4 and i have been wanting to do something with wheels for a while, my first mods were going to be wheels and c/o suspension but i dont and wont have money to drop on the wheels i would like so i think im gonna powdercoat mine dark bronze, ive thought about anthracite but gunmetal on red seems a little played out to me (even though it looks good)

if anyone would like to photoshop bronze on my wheels i will post a pic and i will also post a pic of the "type" of bronze i wont, definatly not GOLD

anyway how much did you guys pay for a good powdercoat?

    color i want..

    my car....

I can't say I would think that would ever look good, but...

I think powdercoating is pretty pricey. I had my old wheels refinished in gunmetal, which was like $100 per wheel (which is basically just painting). Powdercoating must be more.

Does anyone else notice that all the cars in the above posts are honda civics? If you wanna rice out your car buy a ricer. You drive a 20+g used car. Don't fcuk it up. I got bored with my A4 sport wheels. Painted them bronze and threw them on my S with spacers. I will admit that it makes the car's paint look cleanier and shiner. But, I think it's because the wheels look like complete ass

A platinum would be nice. Interior color would dictate a lot of what I would do but it looks like you have grey leather so I would say, leave em stock or a darker platinum. Red + grey + bronze = not so hot.

don't do it.....the only bronze wheels that look good are the ones that COME bronze.....powdercoating/painting stock wheels bronze is RICE....this is coming from a long time japanese car enthusiast......btw, that's my friend jeremy's old car! b4 it got stolen....it had the potential to run 13's all motor, but some asshole stole it....

yeah, I've seen a couple people in the Prelude/Integra community do the powdercoat thing, and it IMO it looks cheap on a Honda. It would be original, though....but very difficult to make classy

thanks for those of you who shared your opinions the ones that really were opinions and not stupid remarks... such as "you realize that every one of those were honda civics"

some people arent in cars to have ice cold ac, comfortable/lazy electical seats and fancy navigation... some people are into motoring and you can down play hondas all you want but a 400whp 1900 lb car running 11's (that will never even see 2 turbos) in my book isnt a ricer, epecially coming out of a built 2.0 or something there like... its someone who knows what the hell there doing and put a lot of time and money into a car

btw, that's my friend jeremy's old car! b4 it got stolen....it had the potential to run 13's all motor, but some asshole stole it....
that sucks man i hate people who steal especially cars!!! it was a nice car with obvious potential

i dont understand why people think theyre better than another because of the car they drive... and this is directed to NO one its a general statment that i have come to after driving an audi and hanging out with the like... im not mad in anyway shape of form just confused of why people dont give credit where credit is due thats all...

lench: do you have anymore picture preferably side of your car before and after your suspension? i have also been thinking of getting tiens for my car

also bnl by the looks of those wheels you photoshopped you actually have the skill, if you get a spare chance and are messing with it could you do those wheels in the bronze i want (darker bronze) and not gold...if not thanks anyway for the joke!

I'm gonna go against the grain and say you might be able to pull it off. But you really would need to be careful to find 'just the right shade' so it doesn't look tacky against the laser red. Plus powder coating can get expensive, so it might not be worth the risk of ruining your rims.

Props for posting up a new idea tho.

yeah i will definatly have to get the right shade im very anal about eveything i do and if it cant be done right then i will re polish them, but im pretty sure ill get it right... when i get it done i will post pics for sure it will be a while...

yeah and if it came out gold or anything other than a dark platinum bronze then i would get sick

    thanks tho

here ya go. Front wheel is more bronze, rear more on the brighter (golden) side.

good luck. Your best bet may to get an old trashed wheel (unusable) and play around with spray paint until you are sure you have what you like - then have the powdercoat people match that. It is hard to match a photo.

Yeah, on my track car (with the aggressive pads) I just spray painted the wheel gunmetal - works great for dirty wheels!

thanks s fear it'll actually be a lot darker than that too, that front one looks gold to me and that back one just makes me wanna vommmit :) when im rolling it will look like a dark color ie black or gunmetal but its when im stopped youd see the bronze in it

is there anyway you can pick up the exact color from pic 2,5,6 in photoshop by clicking on the wheel color and finding where exactly at its on the spectrum (kinda like in paint) lol just extract that color?

I dont think it'll look too bad, I've always loved the look of anthracite wheels. I guess it is more a anthracite with hint of gold you are going for? My friend has a set on his black WRX, looks VERY sweet. Not sure about it on red. but if it were alwmost black it would look good.

don't do it. you don't have a subaru, you don't have a ricey civic, you shouldn't have gold wheels. especially gold-painted stock wheels.

i think the color combination of red and darkbronze wheels look good.... but i dont think itll look good with the stock S4 wheels. the car WILL start to resemble japanese cars though. the whole "bronze" wheel thing...

anyway, there are always people that are going to knock on hondas. thats cool. whatever floats their boat. my 2nd to last car was an Integra. i love european cars for their qualities and i love japanese cars for their qualities. and ive seen many crappy looking euros as well as hondas. sure there are more crappy hondas because well dammit theres more hondas to begin with. blah.

TeamBoB and Rollthatho, i couldn't agree with you guys anymore on the issue of ignorance towards japanese cars on this board. These are the same people that think everything made is japan is crap and " it won't go on my car". I remember someone asking about tein coilover and everyone started screaming rice. But yet they buy cheap ass fliks and adr rims to put on there cars. Makes no freakin sense at all.

Funning thing is i was reading an article in automobile magazine and none of german makers were rank in the top five in customer satisfaction. Yet Toyota was 1 and honda, subaru were all in the top ten.

As for the topic at hand, i don't think bronze would look good with the lazer red. Plus powder coating is mighty expensive as the process is quite lengthy. I think you should just paint it gunmetal.

i think it might look ok if you get a really dark bronze... lighter the color the worse it gets.

Regarding price, I got a quote of $49 a wheel. Its the guy who does our custom motorcycle parts, so I know its good work. I'd shoot for a quote in that general area....

I think one of the reasons that Japanese cars tend to be ricier is because there is an abundance of inexpensive models, and that's what the kids buy. Most kids lack taste....ricing out a car can be compared to...let's say pouring lots of sugar on your cereal or eating mass twinkies...They're just too young to have mature tastes. I'd imagine, if Audis were less expensive here in the states we would see some pretty riced out s4's. But they're not, they're expensive out here. And the lines of the Audi just don't like to be riced. Now I've seen some riced Beamers and Volkswagens out here though. Altezzas and color change paint, skyscraper wings and such. But if you check out my sig it's obvious that all modified Hondas aren't ricey.

BTW IMO a darker bronze might look good....but after seeing so many Skylines, Silvias, and other Japanese imports with Bronze I think it's been subliminaly etched into peoples heads that Bronze=Asian, especially the White/Bronze combo. People gave me shi^ about going full gunmetal (no polished lip) on my Prelude...because wheel color really changes the vibe of a car. Like my car stopped looking friendly and now its mean! LOL. I don't quite think yours will stop looking German! I would imagine it would look less 'luxury' and more 'sport'. But that's all individual perception anyhow.

i agree, it wont look as luxurious but sportier is what im going for, i think it will look good, but you never know

i know bronze on red is hot, wether other people like it or not bronze is hot on white and black too, but stock wheels may play a role in what it will look like for instance aftmkt bronze would look better than stock bronze but i dont have that money yet and i think it wont look bad either way

    good info tho system
