For those without a front plate in NJ, how many times have you been stopped? How much is the ticket? Does the ticket go on your license/points? Any effect on your insurance? Thanks

I drive by cops all the time with no front plate... They dont seem to really bother with pulling me over. It's one of those things if you get pulled over for something else they might write you a ticket for it. I had a gti a long time ago with no plate and they bothered me alot. In the Audi's they dont expect the "ricer boy" to be driving it so they tend to not bother them as much. Ive only gotten one front plate ticket in about 2 years. That was because i was speeding and he wrote me for that instead to help me out. It really comes down to what kind of car it is. Im sure when they see STIs or evos without one they like pulling them over. My dad never gets pulled over in his 911 with no front plate. The ticket has no effect on your license/ points. Its just a $54 violation. Though when i did apply for NJM insurance it showed up on my record but it doesnt make the premium go up. Its the same as having a taillight out.

in my rs4 i used to get pulled over once a week(literally) but with this car i never have. when i was in a gas line 2 weeks ago tho, a state trooper hassled me for not having front plates and called me "that guy" but that should be expected in a gas line where they are checking your plate numbers then get annoyed that they have to walk around to the back of the car to check lol still didnt write me a ticket tho

I've been driving in northern NJ for a year now and haven't had any trouble with no front plate on my car. Maybe it's just luck, but I seem to see many fewer cops on the highway here than I did in northern VA.

I "lost" mine then went to the police station and filed a lost plate report. No one will ever find it in my garage ;)

    It depends on jurisdiction.

If close to PA, where we don't have front plates, they don't seem to bother.

Closer to NY, where everyone has a front plate, you are standing out more. When I had my Daytona Gray/Titanium RS4, and my Interlagos Blue M3, I was not blending and I not infrequently had cops in northern NJ turn and follow me during apparent slow times in Law Enforcement. A friend lived up there. Never got stopped, but they would either pull out and follow or make a U-turn and follow. Wasn't doing anything illegal in the People's Republic of NJ either.

One was approaching on route 202, more central NJ. Near highway speeds. Early Sunday morning. We were the only two cars on the road. He turned on the lights, did a hard U-turn and chased. Came right up on me, and then turned off lights. He rolled with me for a few minutes and then turned around again. WTF?

I assumed at the time it was for lack of front plate. I can think of nothing else that would have prompted the turn and chase and then his breaking off pursuit.

I suggest you move out of the People's Republic of New Jersey. That is my primary advice to you.
Current - 2015 Jag F-Type R, Triple Black. "it's an x-rated, hardcore monster, for the terminally unhinged..."

Recent past - 2013 S4 Prestige. Phantom. Black/Magma and Carbon. It did everything but touch my soul.

    Past
E90 M3 - I still hear the distant howl of the V8......; B7 RS4 - I hardly knew you; B7 S4 Avant - Uber Wagen; Z4 - driving it was the most fun I had in a car (at least until then) with my pants on.

Current place I work is across the street from a State Trooper barracks. The troopers cut across the facility campus where I park and park next to me regularly when I'm out getting lunch locally and while some have complimented the car, none have commented on the lack of a front plate. I have a flip-up plate that I use when I park on the street or in metered parking just in case and I'd definitely pop it up if I had to get in line to get gas. I pop it up when I drive on the Palisades too since that route was heavily enforced when I worked up in that area.

Line in NNJ and have gotten 6 tickets since i got the car in 2010. I didnt start getting them until 2011 I think. I have the pop up plate but it supposed to be a nearly impossible install so i haven't taken the time to try and figure out if its possible.

I have the manual Show-n-Go version. I had planned on getting the motorized unit after sticking the manual version on to test fit. Clearance is pretty tight though and the motorized version adds about 1/4 to a 1/3 an inch at the end of the rail. I've scraped my license plate coming out of my driveway which is not steep and I am at stock ride height. There's another thread about this and I posted pics of how mine is mounted. If I can find the pics again I'll repost. It is fully under the car though

We have this same stupid law in Ohio and frankly over half the cars in Ohio don't have them! Still didn't stop the cops from pulling me over three separate times for the violation in my murdered out 2011 G37 hardtop vert. They basically just saw a flashy sports car and wanted to pull me over (also had illegal tint). In all instances I played dumb about the laws and said I bought it that way, got two warnings and one ticket.

So far as I know, the reason the cops fight to keep the front plate law is that it is the BEST place to bounce their laser off of when trying to check your speed, because its flat and reflective. I will continue to go with no front plate on my S4, I think they're FUGLY! Also planning to apply for collector plates in Ohio for this car, once you spend over a certain amount in mods, it's considered a collector and exempt from front plate laws....

In South Jersey you will be pulled over. Because most police officers in South jersey have nothing else to do.

In central or North Jersey you won't be pulled over often if at all unless you're in a bad or weird area. You're not going to get pulled over in Summit for a front plate but in Newark you will be

I am in south Jersey. This car two years I have never been pulled. Never had a plate on any of my cars before that, never received a ticket. So that's about 8 years of no tickets in south Jersey.

Where? I went to Rowan University and used to get pulled over for the dumbest things.. I got pulled over in my one S4 because the officer said I had too bright of aftermarket headlights... they were the stock HID's..

I consider the Forked River more the Shore than South Jersey. I am speaking of the middle of the state in the South.
