Don't do a BOV. Our cars, and pretty much any modern car made, uses a MAF. The air that passes through MAF is metered and accounted for in the ECU for fuel calculations. When you let off the gas the BOV vents this metered air to the atmosphere; which is bad because your motor is still expecting that air to be in the system. This usually results in crappy idling and you'll probably stall whenever you come up to a stop/let off the gas when coming out of boost.

BOV's are just a bad idea when it comes to our cars.

Plus no need. You get a nice DV and elim the air box and maybe get test pipe/hfc and you'll get a good sound still...

Can always go MAFless with a BT setup too...

I ran an APR R1 dv, airbox delete with just a cone filter on the maf and at highway speeds shifting from 4th to 5th I could here the "blow off" sound.

Sounds like someone has been watching too much Fast and Furious lol. If all you want is "that sound" then you bought the wrong car.

I was playing around with my Forge splitter valve today. I always knew that full blow off was "bad" for our cars, but never knew how it effected the car until i put mine on full blow off and then revved it. I never intended to actually run it like that, i just wanted to see what it did. The car almost died. So now i have it on my car on partial recirculate and partial blow off. I still get the nice sound that everyone (well, some people) likes and i also recirculate enough air for my car not to have any drivability issues

No. Turbo cars only make those noises in movies.

Honestly it's not that cool. I'd guess at your age but...yea...

Not trying to be a dick. When I was younger and fast an furious came out I though that noise was awesome. But no. It's really pretty juvenile. Also it's bad for the engine mmmkay?

I actually like the sound of a BOV, but I wouldn't bother running one because of the problems it can give. Some people run forge splitters, but I like to keep things simple so I just run a Forge 007 DV. If it ever develops a leak at least I won't have a crap idle or stall out when I come to a stop ;).

If you like the sound just get a hybrid valve. It's adjustable and you still get the best of bought worlds without the idle issues. Benn running m gfb hybrid valve for 3 years, with no issues. I haven't gotten tired of the sound. ( I'm now 30 with kids by the way)

I run a single piston blow off valve. But I also have a MAFless BT setup where it is basically needed due to no pcv recirculation. Even the dual piston that I had before was causing a not so clean blow back vent. That is when I switched to the single piston unit. But a BOV def can be done on the 1.8t. Is it recommended? Nope. Can it be done? Absolutely. It has been done plenty of times (Youtube it). But ideally, you should stick with a full recirculation valve if running a MAF and intake reroute.

As was mentioned before, you can get a splitter and probably not have any problems and still get the sound and recirc. But the way I see it is I'd rather have a perfectly running car and get whatever cool/uncool noises come with that and just know that my "power" is there when I want it instead of making an adjustment for basically aesthetic reasons and loosing reliability. I too have a forge 007 and before that I had a 710N and I liked them both. The mods I mentioned before provide an excellent sound for the turbo. (This is my first turbo car too, btw)

Just remember, louder doesn't mean faster.

BOV is not as you say "BAD" for our cars. Alot of people have run them for years. Including myself. Ran a GFB stealth for about 5yrs no issues. Some people, if you run %100 you may get idle and cel from it. As far as install about the easiest thing you can do. I personally likes the sound but being 40 now kinda was getting old. As Mamhertm mentioned.

If mafless it'l run just the same. If with MAF, AFRs won't be ideal.

If your just after the sound and want to see the effects on a MAF car, just unplug the outlet of your stock DV, and plug the hose that goes to the TIP. Instant FREE BOV.

BOV's are mostly bad for our cars because Audi designed the cars that way.

Seriously...who puts the Diverter/Bypass/Blow-Off valve on that side...fucking stupid.

i knew this thread was gonna be a good laugh haha i put a BOV on a recirculating system years ago (RB25DET) and thought it was super cool until i stalled the car a bunch of times and looked like an idiot for that "Cool Sound"... Then it was back to the stock BOV pretty quickly

Forge Splitter for a few years now...no problems on a variety of settings. Easy to install, easy to service.

How much air do you think escapes in the short amount of time that the valve is open to atmosphere? The opening is ~1cm^2.

4 or 5 years now, no problems with my GFB except if you run it on 100%, then you start running rich and get a good amount of backfiring (atleast with a GTRS you do).
the biggest downside is the $400ish price tag but i expect the thing to outlast the car.

typically i just run it at 100% full recirculation (DV mode) but always have the option to open it up if i want to.
