    OEM brake caliper seal replacement

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Has anybody replaced the seals of there OEM brake calipers? I want to refresh my brakes.... I have already replaced pads, discs and put in tyrol sport caliper bushings. I have had issues in the past with one of my calipers sticking so that is why i want to replace the seals front/back.

I am not interested in upgraded calipers/discs at this point.

I haven't changed the seals in my audi, but I have done it on other cars. Its not hard to do, but IMO, I wouldn't mess with them unless they're either leaking, or the boots look like trash. Your sticking caliper probably had more to do with the caliper pins, then the seal on the piston.

    Thanks for the link!

So has nobody done this for the OEM calipers?
I have dealer records indicating the left rear caliper has been 're-re' to un-seize it twice and when I replaced the front rotors/pads there was uneven wear on the front left inside pad.

Nothing that I've seen for OEM brakes, but its not much different from any other European cars brakes. I'll be rebuilding both my fronts and rears and probably posting some pictures and a rudimentary DIY. Eventually, haha.

To remove the pistons, place a block of wood in the caliper to limit the travel of the piston outwards, then use compressed air to push the piston out of the caliper bore. If there is only uneven wear on one of the two brake pads, that is most likely due to the caliper guide pins not sliding easily in the bushings. A stuck piston will cause the caliper to fail to release completely, and both pads will wear more than usual.
