Good safe place to park overnight in Manhattan?

    Hi guys

My friends and I are driving down to NYC in a few weeks and need a good safe place to park my friend's brand new 2013 A4 that hasn't even arrived yet. We won't use the car in NYC, only to drive down there and drive back. We will be staying at a place in the theater district but there's no parking at that building. Anyone know of any good/safe places to park around there for 2-3 days and the rough cost? Location 51th and 7th.

    Thanks!

Park it in Hoboken's municipal parking deck. It'll be covered and it'll be cheaper than NYC. It'll only be a PATH/ferry ride away.

I would definitely leave it out of the city and commute in. Parking in Manhattan will cost you several arms and legs. Also, garages tend to be very tight and some guy who barely speaks english will be parking for you.

I'm not sure how someone not speaking English has to do with parking your car safely, however, 99% of the garages are not self parking. My garage that I park in every day near my office bangs my car up pretty good. They park the cars so close together that even just sliding between cars causes them to get scuffed up. Nothing major, other than a huge scratch on my roof from backing it into an AC duct -- but they paid to get that repaired. As they are parked like sardines they end up shifting the cars around a lot - you could likely pay them more to leave the car in one spot the entire time (normally you see the $200k+ cars there). There are a few lots in Brooklyn that will likely cost you much less and likely less congested. Williamsburg is one subway stop from the city (L train that runs along 14th Street in Manhattan) -- there is a lot here: 510 Driggs Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11221. Never parked there b/c I have my own spot - it may be attendant parking but likely much less busy than Manhattan. There is also a new covered lot near my apartment - I think self park (a little further walk from subway): 5 Richardson, Brooklyn, NY 11211.

Keep it out of the city if you are worried about your car. Hotels will charge you $40+ day to park. Good luck...

You can park for a reasonable price on the Upper East Side. Its the best rate in the city without commuting in and there are a ton of high quality and exotic cars in those garages so you can trust the guys running it. Downtown is expensive and last time I parked down there, I think the guy took a nap in my car. It would be like $22 a night and you don't have worry about it getting banged up in the street. (parallel parking is a big challenge for a lot of people these day and its impossible to find a legal parking space). Once your over there just catch the subway (77th & 86th) or a crosstown bus (78th)... or just take a cab ($10-12). I use the one on 80th between 1st and 2nd.

Parking outside of the city is going to more trouble than it's worth. Take it from the guy who actually lives here, I assure you it doesn't get much better than the upper east side. Its comprised of up scale neighborhoods, no better place to park a brand new A4. It's half the price of the theater district and it's not nearly as far as Jersey.

You guys are hardcore:) If I'm going somewhere in a car, I want to be able to drive it when I want to without a need to take subway/bus/PATH. I'll say find a garage within walking distance of where you are staying and just pay a bit extra to parking guys so that they leave extra space around the car. How about rental car instead of driving your own?

Consider parking at the Secaucus Park/Ride. You can choose to park yourself or valet. Then, take train one stop to Penn Station (E train from there stops about a block from 51st and 7th). Gated, security cameras galore, 24hr access, right off NJ Turnpike, after the tunnel, so no traffic getting out of the city either.

    NYCBest parking.com.

They will show you garages for overnight.....or street too parking too.......at decent rates as well.........though you have an attendent park......

you can also park in my building in Jersey City, overnight for $22/day. but its very safe. you pick the spot.........Several others here park in my building as well..along with several other exotics......pm me or hugh for location. Security Cameras, Gated, steel garage doors close between 12 am and 7 pm for safety. Just one station away from wtc.

its a 2013 A4, he can afford to park by paying and avoid street parking......you can never tell in manhattan.

I live in midtown and park my car at MPG. I have parked my car at several garages and a lot are tight, packed and overpriced. But I would recommend the MP Manhattan parking which is a self parking garage on 42nd and 9th and right off Lincoln Tunnel or MP 41, on 41st and 10th in the Yotel Hotel. Daily prices are pretty affordable and at $24-28 day but will ask my guys when I pickup my car later this week.

Do Not park right in theater district (50s btwn 8th - Broadway) as those lots are all tiny, jammed garages that have lots of activity due to tons of tourists. Plus traffic is a nightmare and have to deal with all the crappy Time Sq tourists.

Also the MP garage just opened up last yr and has 550 car capacity but only have 250 monthly cars, so tons of space to park the cars. And just to put in perspective, my garage has 3 R8s, 1 RS5, Several S4s, M5s and couple Astons and Porsches. Plus they hand wash cars if you want them to. Lets just say they know people are complete dicks if anything ever goes wrong.
