    New Allroad Owner/Build Thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Guys,

Just wanted to say hi and make a build thread. I picked up a 2001 Allroad 2.7T 6spd last night and love it. I'm moving up from the B5 crowd and am loving it. I've owned a C4 A6, B5 A4 (x4), and now the C5 Allroad.

I'm ordering KW ST Coilovers on Monday and hopefully a full Stage 3 kit sometime next week, too. I'm also getting all the flares and bumpers paint matched and making it look one solid color. If time and money permits I'll also swap out for the black interior with recaro's up front but thats the small details.

So for now, here's a picture of the car 2 hours after I bought it and immediately after the 402-mod.

Also does anyone have the neccessary parts off the A6 to put static suspension into the Allroad? The front/rear spring caps and the rear suspension mounts? Don't need the A6 bump stops as this thing is getting low, and I mean low. Ecs wants $55 for one of the front spring caps. I am not willing to pay that much. So if anyone has an entire kit I can grab from them to put in static suspension, let me know, thanks!

And does anyone know if the Diesel Geek Panzer plate from the A4 line will work on the A6 lineup?

Nice plans, but why not Arnott gen 2 air suspension upgrade and some h-sport's anti sways. Coil overs are nice, but imo the main reason for an allroad is the air suspension and off road abilities mixed with performance and being fun. It is your car so I cannot tell you what to do but stage 3 with ability to go offroad then racing is really cool. Colored fenders is something I've been wanting for a long time, as is going stage 3. I'm more into the stanced crowd. I was looking for a B5 S4 Avant to stage 3 but I couldnt find one I liked in my price range. This baby popped up and I jumped on it especially with the rarity of the 6spd. My end goal is to look similar to this car in regards to stance and overall look

To get that kind of stance - the allroad will ride like shit.....PERIOD.

One 2-inch freeway pothole at speed, will blow your air suspension out and flat-spot your rims....just saying.

That's not true. If you read what I wrote you would have seen that im going static suspension next week. Also my previous b5 a4 was at 23" gtf which is an inch of clearance under the car and drove it very well. I know what im doing and how im going to get this allroad that low and sitting pretty

    Yes...... Yes.......yes.!

Love your plans. The great thing about allroads is that once you swap in the a6 parts you can slam the car and still have a lot left on the coils, aka a decent ride.

How much did you 402 it?

What ever floats your boat, I think that white ar is sweet till I get down to how low it is. Maybe 3 inches higher? But the color matched everything, wheels/tires, and top cargo box looks sweet.

But thing again for 98% of cars out there I don't like "slammed cars" although mine gets pretty low with adjusted settings (402 mod) but it will work great with larger wheels and lower profile tires. Still has enough spring rate to ride pretty well, and perfect at level 2.

Aside from that and me not liking the slammed look and going coil's I will be keeping an eye out for your build.

I 402'd it a total of 35mm I believe. The car sits level at its lowest setting right above the tires, so from the flares there is absolutely no gap at the moment.

Also does anyone have the C5 A6 2.7T slim door blades? I'll trade mine for yours + cash.

Anyone know where I can get black interior for this thing? Scotty if you're reading this, I'm looking for everything (Door panels, heated rear seats, center console, dash) thats about it, doing fixed back seats up front, headliner and pillars will be wrapped in suede.

What black interior are you looking for? A6? s6? comfort? sport?

I would imagine finding black rear avant heated seats would be tricky.

If you have heated seats now, it might be easier to find sedan rear seats and transfer the seat covers. I did something similar on my a6.

Also, it seems you have pretty similar taste to me - I sold the allroad door blades and put on rs6 ones instead.

Any pics of your old car?

Here you go dre! you can expect this allroad in the PNW this winter. driving back home for December and I grew up in Bellevue, WA. As for the interior, anything that's black. I could care less as long as it's black haha. the front seats are going to be black fixed back seats.

In that case I would suggest sourcing an interior from a sedan and doing what I suggested for the rear seats. It will be much easier to find sedan parts. Brian@audis4parts likely can help you out there.

Looking forward to seeing your allroad around.

Perfect, throwing mine on from my A4 as soon as my new subframe mushroom rivets get in. On that note, if anyone is looking for the OE skid plate then let me know!

The one in Seattle? Unlikely. I work 40-50 hours/week and am going to school full time this quarter

And it begins! Just called AMI and ordered some coilovers. Working out an RS4 clutch right now. Stage 3 kit being picked up on Wednesday. Hopefully all the body pieces will be shaved and dropped off for paint by Friday/returned on Sunday.

edit: RS4 clutch purchased! now to get the stage 3 and time to tear apart this puppy.

    Nice!

Don't plan on launching the car with that clutch though. My rs4 in my a6 held stage 3 power but not when launched.

Oh and if you're parting the air suspension, I could use a level sensor.

Aw I already let my friend call dibs on the suspension. He's doing all my labor and work for me and in turn he gets to keep every single component of the air suspension as he's trying to retrofit it into his urS6. Also, not planning on launching the car, just spirited driving and some track days (no launches)

Love to see this and that it's local.

I'm thinking of retiring my GLI and picking up an A6. Going air was the best suspension setup possible for the jetta and will be even better with the All Road.

Not gonna lie, that looks pretty sick. But... with that being said, I would never own one that low, due to "practicality" To each their own though. Can't wait to see your end/finished product.

still waiting on the A6 hard parts so I can do the rear suspension.

edit: for anyone look for the rear upper strut mounts, the pn on the DIY article is incorrect as it gives you the FRONT.

The correct OE PN for the rear is: 8E0512121E or 8E0512121D

    Aftermarket:

    PN: 11173918
    PN: 384 54019 500 (IMC/Lemfoerfer)
    PN: 38454019500 (Meyle)

Quick update for everyone with an allroad planning on going with a static suspension swap. Found out the Allroad/A6 top hats with the control arms are identical between the C5 and the B5's. So if you do NOT want to drill holes into your OE top hat, grab some A4 ones from the junkyard.

To anyone planning on doing static suspension on their allroad, DO NOT remove the helper springs, I learned that the hardway and had to take apart the fronts to redo it. On that note, the fronts are done, waiting on my friend to get here from the junk yard so I have A6 rear top hats. But while we wait, we're retrofitting my Allroad OE air suspension into a urS6 wait for that build thread :)

Here are some quick photos of the B5 top hats in the C5. Everything fit in perfectly and no angles were adjusted. Everything is perfect. OE part number: 8D0412383E. Oh and another important thing, while you have the entire top hat assembly out, remove the bolts for the upper control arms and reverse them. This way if you ever need to do upper CA's again, you only need to remove the bolts to each CA instead of having to remove the top hat to remove the bolt.

no worries, it wasn't too bad with air tools taking everything apart again. Put the helper springs back in. If it becomes an issue later, I'll just dremel individual coils off the helper spring until I get it dialed just right.

    edit:

Here's a quick write up regarding how to get an aftermarket steering wheel for the C5

So I've been wanting an aftermarket wheel for my C5 Allroad and I could not for the life of me find a reasonably priced steering adapter, so I made one!

I took an OEM steering wheel from ebay (paid $20 shipped) and then took a hacksaw to it (can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jinsanl...in/photostream)

After taking a hack saw to it, I started using a grinder to conform to the original shape. The plan now is to get it powder coated black then buy a quick release and line it up/drill holes into it and put an aftermarket wheel on my C5.
