Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Here is the code
P0322 16706 Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit No Signal

Once the code was cleared. The car started right up.
Anyone know how I can make sure this doesn't happen again?

    TIA!

Crankshaft Position Sensor, next to driver's side transmission bellhousing is going kaput. Clearing codes after so many times, will do no further good...it needs to be replaced. Good thing the Bosch part is fairly inexpensive and you can get to it from under the car, once the belly pan and transmission shield is removed.

Failure of this part is due to it not being able to send a pulsed signal back to the ECU. The ECU then determines when to fire the spark plugs based on the input of the how many times the sensor's magnet detects the reference stud passing it.

Yup, done this before. It's about a 30min job. Most of the time is spent unthreading and rethreading that damn retention bolt. It's a fine thread and there are lots of them. Other then that, it's a simple job.

Also, I suggest unplugging the Engine Speed Sensor. It's located directly forward of the driver side CV axle, at the axle heat shield. This will allow more room to get in and work that single bolt loose. After that - pull everything up and out through the area underneath your coolant overflow tank.

Do not ever get under the car with the stock jack....ever. They are called widow makers for a reason. Buy some jackstands and a proper jack, but at the very least, some jack stands. Get those under the car and then go under it.

FYI.. I found the same part listed with Napa and other manufacturers with different part numbers but same item. Also the prices vary depending on which part number you provide as well.. When I called Napa they kept trying to give me a $150 part so I started drilling them with each part number and finally they found one that was a reasonable price.. Oh wait is there a different part number if your car is automatic or manual?

Any one know if you can use the same part for both automatic and manual?

I re used the one in my car auto to manual swap. Had no issues. Just double check the length of where it mounts to the bellhousing to the tip of the pickup.
