Hello, new to the forum, need advice on a 2007 Audi S4.

    Hello everyone,

I currently drive a B7 A4 so I'm familiar with basic Audi knowledge with maintenence, nothing beyond this. I have my eye on a 2007 S4 DTM edition and have read a few reviews with only the oil consumption and build up being the main problem. I'm asking all B7 S4 owners about their experience with these cars and how has it been owning one. Would like to know what I should keep an eye out for when owning one, all the pros and cons of the 4.2 V8 engine, I also plan on doing minor modifications to the car, nothing extreme.

I understand the B7 chasis is a little older, but I really like the DTM edition, its a car that I would purchase and keep. I bought my A4 in 2008 and have become attached to it, the car has been more than reliable and I appreciate the simplicity and everything it has to offer, to say the least I'm happy where I am but a little more power and some cosmetics go along way in my book; DTM edition.

Thanks in advance I appreciate the help!

Buy it. The B7 is an excellent car. It pulls hard in any gear, when you need it, and its ROCK solid on the highway.

I bought mine with 12,000 miles. I now have 60,000 miles and haven't had a single problem. My engine does burn a little oil, but nothing to be concerned with. It's more an annoyance than a problem. As part of your purchase I would recommend pressure testing the cylinders. Its worth the money to know you are buying good valve seals.

Not sure what you are referring to when you say 'build up'.

My only gripe with the car is that it leans a little too much for my liking driving hard into turns. And I'm not willing to change suspension components since its my daily driver. Oh, and one more gripe, shifting from 1st to 2nd is difficult and requires focus to do it right each time.

    Good luck

Love my 2007 DTM... beautiful car. You will be shocked at how much different the S4 feels from the A4. They may look similar in body style but when you sit in the car and touch the wheel you'll just know.... The cabin feels tighter ....you feel safer it makes the B7 A4 feel like an empty tin can with nothin to offer. Don't waste 1 more hour of your life not driving one. Just do research before you buy it like you would anything else.

I have the 25quattro and it's my favorite all around car that I have ever driven. There may be some that are faster/sportier and some that are more luxurious, but these are the best of both worlds.

I think if you read around about all the problems it may seem like an unreliable car, but I think it's just like anything those that run across problems will be much louder than those who are problem free. You will definitely want to get a PPI done with compression and leakdown (best bet would be to go with one from another enthusiast that keeps all maintenance records).

I bought my 07 S4 back in July, amd couldn't be happier. My only gripe is the gas mileage, but the feel of driving that car makes up for it. It is my daily driver, has H&R coilovers and Hotchkis F&R swaybars. It is an absolute blast to drive, even woth the shitty city streets I drive on. Get that bad boy and join the club!

Get a PPI done on the car, and absolutely 100% do not even think about passing go until you get a leakdown / compression test done on it. If it's a low milage car, even better. If you can afford a warranty, even better again.

I got my 2007, in December of 2010, and it only had 14,000 miles on it. It now has 29,000 on it, and have had no issues, and PO had no issues either. The car has been a joy to own and drive. In comparison to many cars out there, it not the gas hog that you think it could be. My girlfriends X3 does no better on gas around town.

I was able to get a 2007 S4 with tip with only 17K on the car.... and I'm very happy with the decision. +1 for the PPI, that will get you all the ifo you need!!

i just sold my 06 b7 back to the dealer i bought it from due to oil consumption. PPI and leakdown prior to purchase came back and passed with flying colors.
To be honest and i don't mean to scare you, but from the viewpoint of someone who has gone through the oil consumption nightmare, there is a core flaw with these motors. I don't care what people say on these forums, but from speaking to 3+ local audi dealers and hearing about how many countless engine blocks they have warrantied, i wouldn't buy an S4 with the 4.2 again. between oil consumption and platic timing chain guides breaking, its a total ticking time bomb.

in fairness i know every car has its problems, but no car should be gouging cylinder walls or burning 2QT every 1.2k miles.

just my own opinion, but the hassle is not worth the payoff

^^ Sucks to hear.....sorry about all the trouble you went through here.....This is exactly why you get a warranty, so you can have many worry free miles ahead of you.

This. If you can get a warranty, get it.

Also, make sure you find one that was well cared for and has records to prove it. These cars are very delicate when it comes to maintenance. If you find one that was well taken care of, it will run like a champ (most likely lol) and youll love it. This car is unlike any car Ive ever driven and every time I climb behind the wheel, I love it more and more

I've had my 2007 S4 for almost two years, bought it with 39K on it and have almost 54K on it now. Zero issues with the car so far, and I bought an extended warranty too.

Check the local dealerships, they should be able to set you up with one. My car is sitting in Springfield, MO while I'm out of town on business, so once I get back, I'm gonna check with the dealership down there to see what they offer. I'll let you know what they say.

Thanks everyone! I've decided on it, sounds fantastic and I can't wait to pick this one up...I'm working with the dealer right now and spoke to a transport company to have it transported here from Chicago to Los Angeles. I've read alot of reviews and taken all opinions and advice into consideration about the pros and cons. However, I feel like every car will have some sort of problem at some point of ownership whether it be big or small. Assuming the car was driven I will change the plugs, coilpacks, battery, and oil/filter, but who can I talk to about a PPI?

Audi dealerships cannot warranty if the car is out of the manufacturer warranty, so I am assuming the only cars that can get a aftermarket warranty from the dealer are 08+. Did you find anything out?
