Mann 6.6 bar vs OEM 6.4 bar fuel filter? Both for GTI

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I see GTI's have the Mann 6.6 bar and VW oem 6.4 bar fuel filters while the replacement for our engine is 6bar now, when I replaced mine there were only 4.xx bar I think.

My first question is do the ones that fit GTI need modification? I'm asking this cause I remember draklore saying he had a "modified 6.6 bar filter".

Second should I just go with the VW oem 6.4 bar instead of MANN 6.6 bar? I think bman005 said that some of MANN filters come with messed regulator.

I'm just trying to get a quick answer cause I have a long shopping chart list that needs to get to me quick.

Yes the 6.6 bar requires modification- I am running a 6.6 bar filter

    Top is the 6.6 bar

I had to cut this off the old 6.0 bar

Dremel'd it out, and slid it over the 6.6bar with a coating of JB Weld:

And then it snapped in to place:

Shane, that doesnt look too bad. Was it worth it? Did you see a difference in pressure? Obviously idle wont be at 95psi (6.6bar), but do you think there is a difference between a clean 6.6 filter and a 6.4?

Great quick response Shane, thanks! I was hoping it's an oem fit.
I just ordered the 6bar oem replacement, better than my 4 or 4.5bar I forgot. I have too many things to do anyway and in my case 0.6 bar will not make a difference.

Definitely want at least the 6 bar.

I had a P0089 code for a long time and eventually my fuel gauge went whack so I figured it must be in tank fuel pump. The supports on the fuel pump were bent. I replaced it and shortly after that my gauge was reading off again. I eventually figured out that I had a 4.0 bar filter on the car which I received as a replacement for the original as part of "routine maintenance". I do not know how I got the PNs mixed up but it was a perfect physical fit. Once I put the 6.0 on the car the code immediately went away and once I straightened up my fuel pump, the gauge read correctly and has not gone back to reading incorrectly.

So in summary 4.0 will NOT work. Need at least 6.0. 6.6 might help at higher RPMs or with turbo mods, so wouldn't need that on just an ECU tune.

Is there a direct fit 6.0 bar filter for us without the nipple modification? I bought oem fuel filter from audi dealer and i believe it was 4.5. Im also thinking this is causing my cel 0089 with fuel pressure regulates weaker. The code comes on and off.

Mann 6.6 bar vs OEM 6.4 bar fuel filter? Both for GTI

The oem filter is 6bar. The 4.0 bar is from vw's 5 cylinder. I remember bman saying there like one part number apart and the exact same size.

Exactly, a ton of people accidentally received 4bar filters.

As far as the filter goes. I'm not sure, my old filter had a ton of miles so obviously a bigger clean filter made it run/feel a lot better. I'm not sure what to attribute that to lol

I noticed a few psi increase at idle (around 2psi)
And I had never logged before hand so again it's hard to say.
I did it in preparation for rail pressures around 145-155bar and a fuel cell. I may change my DW-300 to a variable voltage pump as well.

The modification took around 30 minutes to make.

Yes, the third link I posted in the OP is a 6 bar direct replacement for b7. That's what I just ordered but for $30 i'll get the VW 6.6 bar too just for the hell of it and maybe one day when i'll have time i'll pull some logs comparing the two.

The three links there, could you put which one is which for pressure? I see them in ECS but I dont see in there where it says pressure.

I would bet that the filter is the culprit. You need to get the 6.0 filter (PN 4F0201511E). You currently have the 4.5 (PN 4F0201511D). The uprev on the PN is a HUGE difference and cars are not backwards compatible. In my situation the more restrictive filter actually bent the frame on my LPFP causing my gauge to read improperly. I would change immediately.

COREY- all the pics from those sites ARE WRONG!

Don't go by the pics please, I tried to when I was looking for the 6.6. Got so frustrated because I had the correct part number but all the pics had "6.0" stamped on them. They just never update them, so I went to the DEALER and paid like 5$ more but was able to have it in hand and confirm the exact Bar of the filter

I just looked at the pictures, the pressure is stamped on the housing, but as Shane says ...

I just bought the 6.6 from ebay, it says 6.6 bar in big purple letters in the ad, I hope I'll get the right one.

Thanks for the info. I got rid of the post.
So is the 6.0BAR filter, the stock B7 2.0t filter, and a completely OEM fit?

the 6.0 Bar filter should fit fine. I just ordered from ebay, same seller whom shiro bought from. The description had purple BOLD 6.0 BAR. so I guess it's the right one.

I will be getting it on Saturday and maybe install it on Sunday or something. If not, the next weekend.

I'll repost in this thread if it fits fine. Like I said, it should fit..

I replaced mine with this from ecs:

    http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/4F0201511E/ES390198/

which is a standard OEM 6.0 bar filter.

I didnt think there were any other options when I got this one, but now I am wondering, woud getting a 6.6 bar filter help at all?

also, this one on the ebay link links different, and has an additional probe end sticking up-what is that for, and would this have to be modified to run in our B7s?

yes, this is the oem audi replacement now, they probably realized the initial design with a 4.5 bar regulator was not a good idea. I got this one and I the 6.6 bar one too.
The 6.6 bar you're talking about ts for VW GTI and as Shane showed us needs modification. I really doubt a 0.6 bar would make a difference unless you have a BT setup. SO I would not worry at all, the 6 bar filter you got should work fine.

Exactly, the one you guys ordered should be fine, the VW market originally ran a 6.0bar so the pics on ECS and a ton of other sites just update the part number and not the Pics.. Which can kind of make you weary about buying said product lol

Anyways, I'll have to double check the LPFP request thread. Honestly the only LPFP log that IM REALLY INTERESTED IN would be Arjun's (Drumnjuny) because his rail pressure is demanding the most out us all most likely because they not only beefed up the LPFP wire gauge, but also are using the BOOST MANAGER PLUS. To demand more from the LPFP...

I have all the wiring in place for my Boost manager plus to do the same, but I'm so low on time to work out the bugs with the map :/
Honestly then and only then could I really utilize the extra .6 bar
