    Oil Filter Magnets

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have seen ads by FilterMag and a few research reports that suggest that using strong magnets around the oil filter can remove small ferrous particles that are too small to be retained by the filter material. These magnets retain these small ferrous particles along the inner sides of the oil filter and are discarded when the filter is replaced. Our oil filter is exceedingly easy to remove because of its up-front placement on the engine. Have other audiziners tried these products. Do they fit? Are they effective in protecting the engine?

I would spend your money on something else. If it's small enough to get past the filter, it's not large enough to really matter.

never really heard of the filter magnets, and like zerofade said if its that small to get past the filter i dont think its much. but you could get the magnetic drain plugs though, those make more sense because even if it does get past the filter then it'll get caught at the bottom of the oil pan and you'll be able to drain it out easy too. but i mean if this one is cheap then i dont see any harm in trying it, might have some minor benefits.

I've heard of these. Never considered getting any, though. If after the first couple of oil changes, there are still metal fillings in the oil, you got a bigger problem than oil filter magnets will fix. I think the drain plug is a better idea. At least then you realize you have a problem. If the particles are trapped in the filter using the magnets, how would you know unless you rip apart the filter?
