Battery died - now gas gauge and gas cluster reading zero?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
got out from work today and car battery was dead, battery only 5 months old. Jumped the car but the gas gauge show emptyand gas reading in the center cluster show 0 miles and the gas tank icon shows in the cluster.

Any clue whats going on. I was thinking of unhooking the battery to see if it resets the gas settings in the morning, but not sure.

I just filled up yesterday full tank, so plenty of gas. I drove the car 8 miles and checked my parking spot at work and no signs of gas leak.

    any help would be apprecaited

Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then re-connect it. I've had my gas gauge go screwy on me in the past and that took care of it.

Check that all te fuses are intact. Could have blown a fuse.

Sounds like there could be a short in the system though given the battery drain.

The same thing happened to me when I first brought home my last B6 a couple years ago. But the PO informed me that the battery was old and that it was going to need replacing soon. I didn't realize "soon" was 3 days later. Thing died in a snow storm! Someone helped me jump it and then I put in a brand new battery. After the install, I had this issue for a couple of days and it eventually reset itself.

I don't remember the exact number of miles or exact length of time that it took to fix itself, but it did take care of itself. GL

Fuses are not the problem. Pull the battery cables off and reattach. Give it a couple of cycles of on/off driving and it will reset itself. I've had this happen a couple of times.

i just recently had this happen to me. although it was for no reason at all. my gas was near empty so i filled it up. gauge read empty after the fill up, so i just drove it around until it was near empty (estimating around 300mi/tank) and it fixed itself. must get stuck randomly.
