Navigation in the Instrument Cluster?

I was bored and searching for some S4's around the country, and came across this listing:

If you look at the picture of the cluster, there are navigation directions in the info screen. I'm still learning the B6 platform (only 2 months in), but this was news to me.

It doesn't require any additional parts/tools, just a re-coding? I've gone back and forth between upgrading to RNS-E, but I use my phone for most of my navigation needs. It would be nice to unlock this feature though, along with several other hidden options.

It's part of the cluster module in VAG Com... RossTech Wiki But you do need a Nav Unit for it to work....



Channel 062: CAN-Databus Infotainment (Installation List)
+00001 = Radio (Optional)
+00002 = Telephone (Optional)
+00004 = Navigation (Optional)
+00008 = Telematics (Optional)

Yup, I just installed an RNS-E in my car last week, I went into instruments, adaptions, address 63 and turned it from 17 to 21 and now I have it in my DIS as well.

Is this a B6 thing only? On my 2007, it has always been there, and I know for sure the PO didn't enable this.

OP That car has Navi from the factory. It was an option for the B6. If you look closely, controls are located right next to the e-brake and directions are displayed on the cluster. Module is located inside the trunk on the left side. Nothing fancy, I switched mine over for RNS-E, which is miles ahead of that one.

I never knew this was an option on North American B6's. I've seen the actual NAV from Europe (I believe RNS-D). It's the only B6 I've ever seen with the option. Price is reasonable too considering the mileage, and the seats are drool-worthy.

I'll stick with my Noggy-Noggy though.

Got both the sun shades and the pre RNS cluster navigation on my DG B6 S4 Avant with 6 Speed MT; talk about rare ;)

I just googled the necessary coding for the RNS-E and instrument panel. The installation was self-explanitory, I bought the harness and stuff on ebay

If you get stuck on the coding let me know. I have done this in an A4 and my S4. Just make sure you get a harness for the Bose system if you have it. Also route the GPS antenna on top of the D/S fuse panel instead of going nuts and routing it to the sharkfin. There is a cross memeber right under the dash where it will stick and the signal is good. It's a lot easier there.

As far as I can tell the DVD Nav unit in the rear is receiving power, connected, and spinning DVD (PNW region). Power is being received by control panel in console, and yet there is no display on DIS - or any indication the Nav is working when buttons depressed.

Am I missing something here?

If upgrading to an newer system, such as the RNS-E, would the lower console controls still work and would the DIS display work with the NAV?

BNS4.0 is very rare, you won't find many people with experience or knowledge of it.

The lower controls will NOT work with the RNS-E, but the DIS display WILL work with the RNS-E.

If you do the upgrade then you MUST 100% remove the BNS 4.0 as it shares the same diagnostics address as the RNS-E.

Reviving this as I have a question. My car doesn't seem to have channel 63 so I can't make that change...is that possible or am I just doing something wrong? I have the new RNSE 2010+ and a 2004 S4, so shouldn't this work?!

I've got the 2010+ RNS-E in my B7 RS4 and the nav instructions work exactly the same as with the pre-2010 RNS-E - no coding or adaptation differences in the RNS-E or the instruments.

I have this nav in my car. Wondering if it will still work if I change out the head unit to an aftermarket one? Or is it tied into the Symphony II some how?

"color" meaning white, red and yellow. Not sure why they couldn't use a legit full LCD.

I have the same red arrow with cluster in my Audi B6 avant. The only problem I have it doesn't show the nav display on the dashboard all the time. Once in a while it'll come on. I press the lower button to switch between different modes but I don't know why the mod disappears sometimes. Any help to fix this, will be helpful.

It's a bug in the DIS firmware which there is no fix for - but there is a workaround...

The NAV instructions will appear every time if you set an active route and then turn the RNS-E off and back on.
