installing front parking distance control on facelift b8.5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
in the trunk of my prefacelift B8, i can easily locate the parking control module. however, on my facelift b8.5, the module is no longer there! this explains why i was not able to detect the parking module in my vcds scan, even though i have back up sensors and camera.

can anyone with a b8.5 confirm where the parking module is now located? trying to install front parking distance control, but i need to know if i have the correct parking module or if i need a new one.

here is the parking module in the B8 on the left sitting on top of another module:

as you can see, the parking module is no longer there in the B8.5

No parking module in B8.5. Part of central electric. I actually had a harness made to install parking in the new models but no test vehicle yet.

Also there is no grill clips for the new models, they are part of the solid portion of the grill. One of these days I'll get a vehicle to test and roll out a kit.

david, you are correct. i found reference to front parking aid in module 9 central electronics. when i check the box to activate, it accepts the coding, but it deactivates the parking aid menu in the mmi completely (it greys it out, so you cannot select any options.) i suspect its because the front sensors are not connected. at least the module for front parking aid exists, but the functionality is not confirmed.

played with the vcds a bit more today. reference to the "optical display system installed" is located in back up camera module 6C. coding was accepted.

I have a 2013 car, and front parking assist is one of those things that I want but can't get. Thanks for all the digging

Get Laser Interceptors....they double as parking sensors.

i've been thinking about a camera solution as well. so far i've invested in a $12 170 degree waterproof reverse camera that i have tested that is on par with our rear camera in terms of clarity. it even has distance scale lines displayed in the output video image (similar to trajectory lines in our rear camera but fixed). i was planning on getting a rca ami video cable(part number 4F0051510N, which i understand works with the 3G+ mmi system) to get the image in the mmi screen. the camera fits perfectly between the slats of the facelift grill and is well hidden unles you are looking for it. pull some wires through the firewall to the fusebox to hardwire power and you have a "factory like" front camera system by toggling the media source button. i just need to get the ami video cable to test.

    I bought it here:

I'd be really interested in this but not until early next year. Please keep us up to date.

Can it be used with the rear camera hooked up still?
How do you turn it on/off?
Im very interested to see how this went... If all went well id buy it in a heatbeat! Glad to see im not the only one interested in this

No I haven't installed it in the car yet, just tested the camera. It can be used while the rear cam is hooked up but obviously you can't display both at the same time. The front camera would simply be an external media source, but rather invest in an expensive tv tuner simulator, xcarlink, or similar video input interface for the mimi, I would be using the audi video ami cable with rca jack which supposedly works with the 3G+ mmi units. To turn on, simply select the media source, which in this case would be the external video. It's not the most elegant solution compared to the optical parking display, but its also a lot cheaper (<$100).

Unfortunately, the facelift cars no longer have parking module 10, so I have not figured out how to turn off the rear cam instantly when shifting out of reverse gear. You currently need to get up to a minimum speed (~10km/?) to toggle off the rear cam. This is important when parallel parking and you are pulling forward and backwards at the same time without reaching the minimum speed. The rear camera image won't toggle off and hence so you can get the front cam video source to display immediately when pulling forward. Until I get the coding sorted out, I won't be purchasing the ami cable.

Or I could add a new A6 to the stable and get the top view 360 degree camera system

ok, i thought i update this thread since i have some new information. my trip to ingolstadt a couple of weeks ago was helpful in getting some part numbers for a possible front retrofit for the front parking sensors. it appears that the central electric control module 9 in the b8.5 may already already have the capability of front pdc...but more about that later when i have some time to write up my findings. i've also spoken to andy at ross-tech for some advice on coding but they don't have the updated label files yet for the front camera retrofit on our B8.5's.

my other alternative was to retrofit a cheap $12 back up camera and use the audi video ami cable to display on the screen.

first of all, the rca video cable was instantly detected with the 3G+ MMI as an auxilliary video input. not bad for a $60 cable, and no need for expensive tv tuners. if you get creative, you could hook up an apple tv and use airplay to wireless mirror your iphone or ipad onto the mmi screen.

the ami cable is esstentially an rca video feed with left and right audio.

the image on the $12 backup camera is suprisingly clear and on par with our rear view camera. two issues though: i don't like the fake distance lines because they aren't calibrated, and the image is reversed (since it was designed for a rear cam). i think i will get one that has a normal image without the distance lines. ideally you want to position the camera to show the edge of your front bumper so you know exactly how much distance you have before you hit an obstacle.

i think this inexpensive mod will save my front chin spoiler from those pesky wheel stops until i can figure out how to retrofit the oem front parking sensors to get the graphical display.

Hi, I am new of Your forum, but I have found this very interesting discussion.
I have an Audi A4 Avant my2013 and I am about to make the retrofit anterior aps.
If I don't ask too much would I like to know besides the Byte 35 there is to activate other things?
I have a control unit 8k0-907-063-DH, and I have tried the coding of the Byte 35, you/he/she has accepted her, but on the display of the mmi nothing doesn't appear and it also works normally that back without giving me some error. Give me some right-hand. Thanks in advance.
