    Sports Differential System Fault

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Earlier today I had this error pop up in yellow. It stayed up there for the 10 minute drive then after turning the car off and restarting it, it has not returned. I did a search and only saw this happen to some early 2010 models which turned out to be software related. I've got 7800mi on my 2011. After plugging in the VAGCOM I recieved these fault codes for the ABS and AWD system. I'm not sure what the ABS code is saying other than an issue with the DTC memory. The AWD seems like it's pointing to bad sensors. I'm a fairly hard driver by nature but I haven't got too many miles on the car and its been sitting in the garage since Friday and the error popped up as soon as I pulled out. Anyone have any insight into this? I'll be calling the dealership in the am to see when they can get me in.

I happened to me at around 200 miles. . . . it was a weird combination off ebake and stall. Light came on. I shut the car off and went in the house. . . . Next morning it was fine.

The fact that it cleared itself is normal. No need to worry unless the light stays on or it keeps reoccurring.

I would take the car to the dealership even if the light is off. There was a TSB for the sport diff light coming on and it would be worth a look with the scan tool. It wasn't a clear cut fix but rather go through the walk through diagnosis and then repair as necessary.

Differential oil pressure sensor needs replacing so hopefully that's all it is. should have the car back tomorrow.

Any update on this? My 2012 S4 does this sometimes and I haven't found a solution anywhere else.

I've got the same error code. Car displaying "Sports Differential System Fault". I just scanned it, and got the same message as above:

0333 - Oil Pressure and Temperature Sensor
    C1004 F0 [008] - Oil Pressure Implausible
    Intermittent - Confirirmed

01324 - Control Module for All Wheel Drive (J492)
    013 - Check DTC Memory - Intermittent

It looks like there may be a fluid leak coming from the rear differential, but I'm not 100% sure since I've been driving in the snow and the floor of my garage and underneath my car is all wet ...

Anybody have this problem? Any advice? Thanks

Can you elaborate? That seems like they replaced something mechanical, much more than just a sensor.

My 2010 s4 Got the sports diff fault code message in my DIS. Took it in to the dealer a few weeks later, they replaced the whole diff. Took over a month to complete.

My 2011 s4 I noticed oil on my garage floor towards the rear of my car. Mentioned it at my 35000km service. I was told it was a simple seal replacement. Went to pick the car up after work and was told that it was not the seal, diff needed replaced, parts from Germany again...6 weeks of driving a q5 loaner I told them to keep the car and bought a new 14.

Got the "Sport Differential System Fault" message yesterday when I was driving back home from work. There was quite a bit of snow in Toronto.

The message pops as I was going through a slight bend and next thing I loose traction and the car ploughed through. Could not recover the slide. Pulled over turned the car off gave it a few seconds and the message went away when I started again.

Came home turned off the car and started and drove after an hour without the message coming back up.

Scheduled with the dealer for Monday.

The SA told me that since it was very slippery the SD could have thrown that error as it could not get traction also since the error did not come back up should not have anything to be concerned with. Does this make sense ?

I brought the car in and waiting for final diagnosis. After doing further research, this weekend, I'm pretty sure this might be the problem:

Seems like a common problem - fluid leaking from sports diff at rear axle.

Any update yet? My concern is that I'm getting this error code every so often and I'm not leaking anything from the rear diff. It's bone dry!

Dealer said it was leaking oil and he tightened something up. He's gonna test drive it and let me know if that was the fix. He also said there's a TSB (which we already know), so it sounds like they are on top of it. Says he's saving me from having to replace the diff, which he says would be around $2K. I'll let you know when I get the final verdict...

How often would you get the Sports Differential Fault on the DIS? How often would you find diff oil on your driveway (if any)?

The Sports Differential System Fault warning went on and stayed on. I looked under the car and noticed an oil stain on the garage floor, about a foot in diameter. I made an appointment and took the car right in for service, although the car ran perfectly fine.

Very weird, I get the Sports differential fault along with parking brake failure and Stabilization Program fault and I don't have any fluids dripping from my sports diff. So I'm thinking my issue is something electrical. It also happens very intermittently. For example, when I first got my car it did it every day for a few months, then it went away for a few months. Now it happens once every few weeks.

I'm going through this now too...2011 S4 with about 41,000 miles on it. For about 2 months I would get the sports differential fault and stabilisation programme fault messages at startup, with the orange steering wheel light and the orange traction control light on the speedometer. At first it was sporadic but now it happens at every startup. I also occasionally get the dynamic steering initialising warning message. Never any drips of fluid in the garage. Took it to the dealer last week. Day 1 at the dealer was them telling me it needed an alignment and I had 3 bent rims. They obviously didn't notice in their records that they had just done an alignment 3 months earlier. I said fine, I'll wait for it, and if it doesn't make the warning lights go away I'm not paying for it. 5 hours later (you read that right) the alignment was done. I started it up and all the warning messages were still there. The dealer was surprised so they gave me a loaner. Day 3 at the dealer they called to say they had to order parts for a dynamic steering TSB. Day 7 at the dealer they said parts are here. Today is Day 8 at the dealer and they claim the parts will be installed today and it will fix the problem. I will be shocked if it does.

OK back from the dealer and the dynamic steering TSB fix actually cleared all the fault messages and lights. The work order says "8K0-927-289 repair kit, installed repair kit for locking magnet for steering column as per TSB, basic setting of active steering". Sounds like this would only apply to cars with Audi Drive Select.

New sports diff is about a $12K or more job, he may have been referring to the labor component. My bill came to about $13K but warranty covered it all. I wasn't leaking either, just kept getting the yellow fault light. It took a while to get done since the new diff had to come from Germany but I drove the car until the diff came, it was explained to me that it wasn't huritng anything, it was just acting as an open diff. When the part came it took a couple days to get the work done.

My dealer is claiming I also need new differential. How did you go about getting work done out of warranty? They are currently seeing what Audi says. If not $6400 repair. 49000 miles 4 months out of warranty

Are you leaking oil from the differential? It doesn't sound like a bad sports diff is the only explanation for this issue.

This happened to me Saturday. I was sitting at a light and the error message popped up. Turned the car off, turned it back on and it was off. Has not came back. 87,000 miles

Anyone have any updates? Dealing with the same issue. I'm getting fails on both sensors. The oil has been changed on the diff and it is still there. What next? Replace the sensors? What about the solonoids and valves? I don't want to get into a spin of replacing parts for no reason...

I do not have a leak. Just the sensor errors.

Just the sports diff. It is intermittent too. It didn't come on this morning. It's had it come on when first starting. Other times it is when taking a hard turn. Even just driving in a straight line!

My tech is wondering if it is the motor/pump assembly since it is effecting both sensors. Anyone have the tech docs on this thing? I'd like to read through them as well.
