EPC light means new throttle body?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a 2000 s4, twice while driving my car looses all power and the EPC light comes on in the tach. A quick pull over and restart seems to get me going again.

I also am getting this code when the error happens:

17743 - Engine Torque Monitor 2: Control Limit Exceeded
    P1335 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

After some googling it seems that the throttle body is shot? Anyone have this happen? Anyone have one for sale?

    Thanks

    ps. tial 605s rock!

everytime my EPC light has come on and the car hiccups, its been a throttle body. remove the tb and then move the blade open and shut; all of mine hung up so raatarrdedly tight i dont even know how the car ran.. lol.. improper torque with the APR bipipe was the only thing that i would say contributed to this failure, with my ARD pipes and a samco ive yet to have an issue..

if you dont have an APR bipipe then i suggest cleaning the throttle body, if it moves freely with no hangups that may be the only issue..

thanks for the quick response. I believe I have the stock bipipes. Ill check the throttle body...

Can I use brake clean to ungunk the throttle body or do I have to use a gentle cleaner like a MAF/electronics cleaner.

no, its completely mechanical-- even where the plug in is, its extremely rudimentary for what you would think of an electronic throttle body would/should look like internally. i wouldnt saturate it, of course, but just getting it good enough to where you can use an old toothbrush or a towelette should be fine..

i have two ecus, it does it on both...I am also getting a misfire. I have been told its possibly my coilpack causing the EPC light. EPC only comes on when Im on it at high RPM. My throttle body looks good. I am getting a used one for $50 from a local member...I think it may be time for 2.0 FSI coil upgrade?

It could be one of three things......
    1)tb
    2) ecu
    3) wiring between ecu and tb
    4) tb harness plug

Yes you should be able to calibrate it via VAG-COM and just to add I have had issues with the EPC light coming on and the car loosing all power a few times. One time it was due to a boost leak with my drivers side lower intercooler hose, it eventually popped off completely and the car cut out, I replaced my silicone hose with a longer one and it has been fine since. The second time it happened was somewhat recently and it was after getting the car re-tuned. This time it turned out to be my MAF, basically my MAF isn't 79mm straight through it is slightly smaller then opens up to 79mm, so once he adjusted the tune to my MAF I have not had an issue.

Not sure what to look at my EPC light is currently on but some times it goes out for a couple days then comes back.

Symptoms- car runs fine taking it easy and just normal driving.
IF you try to accelerate hard rpm spikes but not change in acceleration then itll drop pick up speed, rpm spike (increase in Rpm no motion) drop down and pick up where it left off.

You did your mods in the wrong order. VCDS cable comes before all the stuff in your sig, maybe even the car

I think it pretty much does that every time you turn the key on.
The codes are what you are going to want to look for.

My EPC light is temperamental, comes and goes as it pleases but the throttle response/clutch/rpm spike issue persists.^^^

first time i ran codes, cleared them.

Holy moley! You have a soldered chip ecu?

I think revo is a flash so should be good there.
Id say fix the obvious stuff (or a new flash with code outs) and work your way up.

I figure its either clutch slipping Or something throttle or tune related.

Whatever it is you got some work to do.
That thing cant be running very well, some of those codes are ones the ecu dont like.
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

Not sure if revo has changed things, but the egts will put you in limp and maybe dump fuel.
The same for the B1 S1 o2, but that is at least intermittent.
The brake switch can do funny stuff, like cut out the throttle.
