Help No Start - Possible Clogged Fuel lines?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm a new 2001 B5 A4 5spd owner and I just got this car not too long ago. This forum helped me out a ton to fix most of my issues thus far.

So far I fix the no spark issue and the fuel pump not priming, so that's ok now. I believe I hit a final snag to have my Audi to start and drive.

I took out the outlet fuel line(from fuel pump) and I'm sure that the fuel pump was spitting pressurized gas going to my new fuel filter. Now the gas doesn't reach my fuel filter at all. So I concluded that my outlet fuel line from fuel pump to fuel filter is clogged.

    1st Question:

Is this a correct assessment? Since I know fuel pump gives out gas and it doesn't even reach my new fuel filter, it's only fair to say my fuel line from pump to filter is clogged.

    2nD Question:
Is it possible it's flattened in between something with the body underneath? I tried to removed this fuel line but it's stuck in the middle and I can't yank it out. Btw, not even a drop of fuel reaches the fuel pump.

And finally, I don't know where to buy replacement for this. Dealership? Junkyard? I can't seem to find this part online.

    Thanks in advance.

Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel pump.
Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter.

Blow from one end to the other (having someone feel to see if air comes out the other side).

That's how I would test for a clogged fuel line. I accidentally yanked that line out of my sister-in-law's Avant when I did the fuel pump and filter.

Ok I will try to blow some air from pump going down. Maybe I can use some pressurized air or something to see.

When you accidentally yanked out the fuel line was it very easy I supposed? Mine seems to be stuck in the middle and won't budge. I tried removing it from top or underneath the car and it will not even move, so it might be stuck flattened out by something.

I'm not sure if it is any different, but her car was an Avant.

Before you take it out, have you tried disconnecting the line at the filter inlet and cranking the car.

The fuel line shouldn't be hard to remove after disconnecting from the pump, not much holding it there but definetely should not be compressed to the point no passage. Maybe the tank got snugged up against the the line after fuel filter install or something. Honestly though if your drop the tank *4 bolts to the body) should be pretty easy to figure out blockage. Stock lines are form fitted hard plastic, they aren't likely to crush without serious stupidity. I had bad gas in my tank for 6months and ran it through, I don't see gunk blockage being the problem esp with the tight weave on the stock basket pickup.

Yes I disconnected the fuel line from pump to filter inlet. I crank the car and I know gas is shooting from the pump, so I'm good there it's just not reaching the filter inlet down. I connected the inlet from pump to filter and it's not reaching the gas to filter. So I believe the culprit is in the fuel line hose itself.

I did lowered down the gas tank after removing the 4 bolt as per the instruction guide. Maybe it got stuck there or something. But it's extremely difficult to pull and will not budge a bit.

I will try to pump some air on it and see if it goes down. But is it likely that this fuel line is clogged down? Is it possible it's blocked? I mean I know filter or pump can be blocked, but the line itself seems to have good clearance to be blocked. Or maybe the snag is what's causing it?

Thanks a lot for the reply guys. I really appreciate it.

Like I said it's hard plastic, pretty hard to crush and even year old gas isn't likely to sludge up a line that big. Take the banjo off the fuel filter and clamp on pump and try pulling the line out of the car. Shouldn't be that hard to remove.

Well whooptido the fuel line from the pump was just not in the right order! I noticed I was yanking out the line which is the return line and not the feed to the filter.

Exchanged the line from pump, crank it up and gas went to fuel filter! After that I crank the car for about 5 times and starts up. This A4 has never been started in about 7-8 months. So I need to do some tune up.

But other than that, after some new oils and coolant it idles like a champ. I fired it up several times and comes up every time. I spun it up quickly in my front road and never missed a beat. I'm so stoked!

This is my first Audi and I bought it very cheap in non-running condition. But the paint is very straight just needs some tlc here and there.

Thanks a lot for all the help guys and I learned a lot from searching in this forum. Especially with Mr Walky Talky advice in the forum.

I used an foot air pump and put it at the end of the fuel line and made sure it's air tight.

Then blow air and gas came back, so I know that the other end was clogged.
