    Aftermarket Radio Install on '04 A6 C5

I sent Christian an email through his website, regarding what parts I should order from his site, but I got no reply. I have no time to call his shop during his business hours because I am too busy at work. Hoping I can get some help here on the forums. Email went a little something like this... LOL

I am looking to install a pioneer double din radio (possibly the avic-z140bh) in my 2004 a6 with the bose system. Stock door speakers, bose subwoofer and bose amplifier that powers all door speakers and bose subwoofer. I also just installed an aftermarket powered 10" subwoofer. What is the best wire harness that I should purchase that will work with the steering wheel controls and provide audio signals to the stock bose amp and an aftermarket powered sub (i am guessing I can use the sub out from the radio to the powered sub)? Also, what dash kit can I use that allows me to keep the factory finish?

    Thanks.

Sorry we were swamped last week due to a short week and being overbooked with installs and understaffed. Lots of fun... We are always on the phone so sometimes the emails and forums get backed up.

If you have steering wheel controls I need to know what radio you have. And we also have plug and play harnesses for many radios.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. The car came with the Symphony radio with the 6 disc changer in the radio itself. Has all the stock speakers and subwoofer along with an aftermarket powered subwoofer.

I am looking to get one of the 3 radios:
    Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH
    JVC KW-NT800HDT
    Kenwood DNX9990HD
or possibly the Clarion NX702 which I'm not too crazy about.

I am not sure which one I will get. Any recommendations? I am looking for navigation with live traffic, HD radio, Android compatibility, and something that will not give me issues down the road with freezing and random reboots. I also enjoy a nice GUI. Thanks for your time.

The JVC is the best radio I think. But the pioneer had nicer displays. I've installed the Kenwood before and I like it and have no experience with the Clarion. I've had pioneers for the last 10 years but when I switch mine up next I"m going to take a good look at that JVC.

All 3 of those radios are good. It really just depends on what you want. It's like picking between a blonde and a brunette...

    Hi Christian,

Which steering wheel remote control harness do I need for the JVC that will work with the Enfig SRWH-AUD2?

Also, does the Enfig SRWH-AUD2 provide speed pulse for GPS and "reverse gear" output for auto camera selection?

    Thank you.

The SRWH-AUD2 does provide the the VSS and reverse but your car does not provide the reverse on the CAN BUS. I'm pretty sure VSS is provided. I'm doing an install in a friends car tomorrow so I'll know next week when I get back from vacation.

    Thanks for replying.

I have this china made RNS wanna be radio (bought from ebay and big mistake) which came with a can-bus module that provides reverse gear output to the radio to activate the rear camera. I hope this harness does it as well.

What does that brown wire connect to? What is different with this one and the other JVC control lead on your site? Looking forward to receiving the parts I ordered recently.

    Enjoy your vacation!

Some of the older cars don't do reverse... If the car does it then the module will too...

    Hi Christian,
I just received the items I ordered. The antenna adapter doesn't look like the one shown in the picture above in post #3. Also, there are no instructions for the JVC remote lead. Where does the brown wire connect to? Is that for power? Ground? Thanks.

We made some changes to the antenna but there is no loss of signal. The brown wire goes to the remote lead off the radio. The plug is not used.

    Howdy all. Great thread.

I have an Audi A6 C5 200/5 Allroad with amplified Bose/SatNav/TV original audi stereo which is faulty
I want to upgrade the stereo to a double din Android OR branded Pioneer/Kenwood etc type unit. not sure which yet and really hoping for some advice from people who have tried this, Enfig - I would greatly appreciate any comments you have here since you are clearly the world-renowned experts on such matters!

I basically just need satnav, phone bluetooth, DVD and iPod functions but I would really like to have YouTube too if poss, even if only by mirroring iPhone to the head unit. I have looked long and hard at the Chinese Android type units like this one https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...612.0.0.ZEzQln
I fitted a similar (standard generic double din) in my wife's van and it works pretty good. But I would like good sound quality and reliability from a head unit in my beloved Audi A6, especially given the Bose system already installed.

Now that we are in 2017 and the Androids have been around a while, do people still find them ok or have the worms started to show up?! I am keen to hear anyone's views on what they consider the best upgrade for my car's head unit?

More importantly, I obviously need to ensure whatever I buy can be set up to work properly with the bose amp etc.
    Any comments appreciated. Thanks y'all

Thanks. My current recommendation for a radio is the Pioneer 4200-NEX. But anything from the big brands is a reliable choice. The more you pay the more features you get.

I have banned the Chinese radios at the shop because of repeated issues. They aren’t all bad but it’s not worth risking my reputation on. After I do an install the Steering wheel controls don’t work, canbus box doesn’t work, Volume knob doesn’t work, screen has a line, Hissing noise in the background. One actually smoked after we plugged it in. At the end of the day our customers don’t know if they got a bad radio or if we did something wrong. Many people have success but if you read reviews on amazon (not their site where they control reviews), the results are mixed.

I have tried 3 different units - Eonon, Xtrons and Erisin - the 1st two still work - the last one was android version which died after only 6 months and doesn't fit too well in A4 (working on a fix but waiting upgrade from px3 to px5 SOM board which cost me half the price of the unit almost) Erisin have ignored my emails to help fix or repair under warranty....All have needed signal boost leads for radio. Most Chinese units come from re-sellers so support does vary from good to in my case none. I like the android features but would advise to check reviews carefully for non mainstream units.

Hi, thanks for replies. For some reason I don't get notifications (checked spam folders etc).

I want satnav built in which I don't think the 4200 has. 7" screen, built in satnav, and HDMI for mirroring iPhone screen (properly), ideally no car play crap :D

Any suggestions welcome, especially if they fit nicely in an Audi Allroad :)

    thanks again
