B6 A4 front brake pad replacement help

I have searched, but i failed.

I want to change the front brake pads...to remove the front calipers, do I need to remove the carrier/rotor/caliper all as one via the two 21mm bolts?

or would it be better to just remove the caliper alone using the allen bolts holding the caliper to the carrier?

this thread confused me, which is why I am asking.

Thanks in advance and sorry for my n00bness.

If you are just doing pads, then you just need to undo the allen bolts. Only need to remove the carrier with new rotors!

You can search on youtube. They have a video of steps to replace pads/rotors. Seemed simple enough. Make sure you have the right tools to retract the piston!

I have it saved on my work computer. I'll do a search later. I'm hungry.

Thanks for the quick responses guys! I got it all done fairly easily, and holy hell retracting the piston on the front is a lot easier than on the back.

That's why the old phrase "The right tool for the job" is so true when working on these cars. Purchasing a brake piston retraction tool kit is something like $60, but you'll use it over and over again, and it makes retracting the pistons easy.

Congrats on getting the brake pads changed. Which pads did you go with?

I agree, although I meant even with the right tools, the fronts were a lot easier than the rears.

I went the budget route, as I plan to upgrade brakes in the next year. Wagner Thermoquiet Pads with sensors.
