Need a suggestion or review on twin disk clutches

I am going to replace the twin disk clutch on my s4 because its starting to slip. The previous own had Tilton twin disk clutch and flywheel kit. Should I go with the same or another brand?? The car makes 500+hp and 500+ft/lb torque. Any input/suggestions would be appreciated.

Your 3 primary requirements are 3 things that are typically not found in twin disc clutches.

Twin Discs allow for way more clamping force, and disperse that force over two discs. They are a performance part, and the primary function is to hold the power, and not drive great around town.

Tilton's are one of the best twin disc clutches made, and their new Cerametallic discs last longer then before, but it is still a high clamp and high friction clutch kit. Engagement will be rough and quick, but the feel will be solid and consistent. You can rebuild your Tilton clutch for very cheap. You can have the friction surface replaced and discs replaced for a few hundred dollars. However, the average life of the clutch will be less then that of a typical single disc. In the end, it is still an unsprung twin disc performance clutch designed to hold +700ft/lbs

There are twin disc clutches that do drive better, but you will make sacrifices in performance. For example, another great twin disc clutch is the Clutchmasters TD850 (FX850 to some). The reason it can drive better, is because there are a variety of pressure plate and disc options. You can opt for a lighter pressure plate, with a combination of sprung and unsprung discs. However, the clutch is 8.5" diameter and quite heavy compared to a Tilton 7.25", and also about twice as expensive. They can last a long time depending on the discs.

Your cheapest option is to rebuild your Tilton.

If you want a single disc clutch that drives well with little effort but holds 500hp, I highly recommend the Southbend Stage 4 Extreme. This is what I run on my own 600whp S4, it is what my coworker runs on his 600whp S4, and also a clutch used by a variety of friends and customers with big power cars. You won't be able to beat on it like a twin disc, but if you are mindful, it can last +30,000 miles and hold your power. I can offer you a great deal on the clutch and flywheel combo, or I can help you rebuild your Tilton for cheap.

I have 600 miles on my tilton twin and love it, sometimes sucks around town but once you figure out the friction spot its really not too bad. When mine goes out I will rebuild it.

I've got a dozen or so Southbend Stage IV extreem clutches out there and it's been a great clutch a few people have repleced twin disc clutches after their twins' wore out and have not looked back.
