The B5 S4 SSAC Downpipes Thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Post comments on Fitment, Type (Catless/Non-Catless), and year when you bought them. If you have logs, dyno sheets great! Post them up. I'm also interested in comments about spool and smell as well as your tune and target AFR.

I realize there is likely other SSAC threads... However this one is B5 S4 specific.

ssac v2 w/ flex pipes non res. fitment is great, spool is similar to piggies. Sound is much better. Smell sensitivity may be a utah thing?

SSAC version 2 downpipes with flex joints and v-bands, non-resonated or catted. No smell, excellent fitment. Just curious what you're looking for here as they are very much worth the money.

i have a SSAC turbo back (was on the car when i bought it) it has resonated downpipes, no flex pipes, and uses the olive clamp things.

no cats, in the downpipes or after. it doesnt smell inside the car or anything, but if you stand too close to the tailpipes you will feel like you are going to die. it smells awful

the fitment seems okay, although i wasnt the one who installed it

I got the olive clamp version one's about 2-3 months ago and fitment was decent. Only problem was the supporting brackets down right before the mid pipes didn't line up. No cats all the way through, smells a little bit of you sit and idle for a little bit but that's a given. APR stage 2 tune but I have not logged yet. I went from stock downpipes to these so I don't have much to compare to as far as spool.

For the price I wouldn't be able to justify going with different set of downpipes. If I log soon I will post here.

Should I start freaking out yet? I placed an order on the 23rd expecting it to ship the 27th per their claim. Most of the time North Carolina to Indiana is only 3 days to ship... I haven't received tracking information and have not received any replies since the 24th...

It does because you are going catless, any time you remove cats there will be smell, so piggies too. Mine smells a bit on start up and when I am WOT people behind me say it smells like fuel, especially when I am throwing flames between shifts.

SSAC Catless Connected to UUC Motorwerks Exhaust. Perfect fitment, had them for about 8 months now. Sounds like a beast and it has that turbo spooling sound. Recommend to all.

Mine vibrate against the underside of the car, usually when full op temp and higher temps, (thinking it could potentially be something else, but it's right underneath the middle arm rest it seems)

Well I got my setup on the 3rd Fedex truck of the day (no idea why they came 3 times) Installed last night. I have leaks between the turbo's and downpipes and the test pipes to the cat back. Doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it...... Plus the down pipes didn't line up properly at all. The flanges at the turbo's are not stainless steel, the V bands are not stainless, and a couple of the welds were not stainless. Stainless steel is not magnetic and the majority followed with that but those area's did not.

You must have gotten a shitty set somehow then. Mine lined up perfectly. The only place I had leaks was at the v-bands but that was mostly because the clamps that came with them sucked. I bought new clamps on eBay.

Basically if you're wondering how it will sound.. Heres a clip of my B5 with SSAC DP's Catless connected to UUC MotorWerks Exhaust. Fitment is great, one issue I noticed is at high temps they starts rattling on the under carriage, but that's when you've been running it hard. Other than that they are great pipes.

Very cool I've been waiting for 3' SSAC downpipes for a long time now! But they taper down to 2.5? Is the tapered section of the pipe short? Like could I just cut it out (2.5 section) and weld it to a 3' catback? Wonder if anybody want's to start a group buy...

I have an exhaust leak right where the turbo meets the downpipe (flange). Didnt really realize until after the install as done...could have been a rushed install or possibly bad fitment (I have the newer version w/ vbands). Now there is no way to fix this leak and tighten the flange without dropping the motor again, so I gotta deal with an aweful sounding exhaust leak now.
    Anyone have a better way?

you shouldn't have to drop the motor, all 4 studs should be accessible from underneath and then from up top. Its been a while since i have pulled a set out, but i think with the right wrenches, sockets, and extrnsions you can yank these out completely in well under an hour (not counting the time spent to jack the car up). I think the flange nuts require a 17mm socket/wrench, but double check that.

If you just want to try tightening them, and you didnt reuse the factory heatshields, I think all you have to remove to gain access to all 4 studs is the Driveshaft heatshield, (which is just 3 allen head bolts if memory serves) and the lower spash/skid tray. If its the driverside you will also have you pop out your accordion intake hose.

Here is a link with pics, if you start around #23 you should be able to see what you need to do in order to just tighten them:

Two allen heads, most likely going to strip out too.

Oops, sorry i meant the 3 allen heads on the drive shaft heatshields (pictured below) not the turbo heat shield

But you are right, if you still have the factory heatshields, there are two allen heads there too. Fortunately if you just had these installed, they should already be broken free/snapped from that
