    Dynomax VT long term review

So I purchased a dynomax VT muffler through Jeff Lee sometime last year along with the 520 psiconcepts turbo kit.

The part number for the one I have is 17157 ie below 4L application as per Jeff Lee's recommendation.

When I first got it, I just installed the muffler on its own. However, it sounded very rice...very honduh kind of way. I installed a resonator in the middle few days after that(couldnt bear the noise it emits lol)..helped a bit...

On the positive side, at cruising speed, its very very quiet.

So push forward today...the rattle from the muffler's butterfly is driving me nuts. Videos will speak for itself.

and here is the killer video

Its by far the shittiest aftermarket muffler ever made. Period.

Ps: its not Jeff's fault in any way. Dynomax really need to look into this.

What's a good quiet setup you guys run? 2 mufflers(ie mid and rear)?

Wow, that just made up my mind not to get it. I thought they added a little foam thing to the flapper? But I don't think it would last long term.

Whatever they had sticking to the flapper didn't last for a year.

Best bet is to run X-force's Varex muffler.

Theyre very pricey...If I could get them for cheap, it'd be great substitute for the dynomax shitbox.

    Not much updates bud.

I need to rebuild the engine as I'm not happy with the compression numbers.

I bought a custom wilwood 332mm 6pot BBK from a member here. Should fit it this weekend.

Heck I might start a build thread here. Copy and paste the stuff from the oz forum. lol

    Did another video today.

I forced the valve to open by sticking a piece of rod. To be honest, the car sounds a LOT better.

I wonder if its a big job to undo the stupid rattling valves in the muffler.

So...the rattle gets worst by the day and I had to something about it. I feel that they should put up a slogan for the muffler "gone drone, hello rattle".

Went to a friend's house and used an arc welder and tack welded the butterfly to stay open. I know it defeats the purpose of the anti drone, but the tack welding is free, saves me from buying another muffler.

VERY easy to fix the problem. Find a long rod or small'ish pipe to get the butterfly to stay open, with an assistant shining a light through the muffler, run the arc welding rod in and tack it. Win.

Here's a video of my car now :-

    FYI Its a 2.5inch downpipe - 3inch pipe - resonator(cant remember size) - dynomax muffler

Well, it's not that bad. Just have to feather the throttle for a "sweet spot" quietness lol
