Best? Way too broad of a question. You need to figure out what sort of features are important to you -- then someone can probably give you a better answer.

So this begs the obvious question. What's lacking with the stock alarm system?

I believe there is no tilt sensor [wheel jacking and towing come to mind]

These are companies that sell aftermarket security systems
    Viper
    Python
    Prestige
    Avital
    Crime Stopper
    Pyle
    ScyTek

I have seen Python system installed into B7 and it was amazing we were inside theatre watching movie and still he was able to monitor the vehicle , he got notification when someone was very close to his vehicle like touching glass, pretty cool, he had remote starter in it, and many other features that I can not remember ,

Yea I would like a system that alerts me with tilt sensor and possibly if anyone is in range of or is touching my car. There has been a massive uptrend in Audi thefts in the Tristate area and I really would prefer to keep my car as protected as possible

I was just wondering the same thing yesterday as to what is the best or most comprehensive add on alarm that alerts you to your phone or can be monitored via iPhone

My car is either in my condo parking (quite safe) or in my parent's garage. I don't think aftermarket is necessary. If they want to steal it, they will steal it no matter what system you have.

My car sits in the same two places like you but I do go out to socialize and park in White Plains, NYC etc. So I figured any deterrent helps.

That's besides the point. Having an aftermarket alarm also has a variety of benefits depending on what you get. I personally love the viper systems with the iPhone access to your vehicle. You can even turn it on for over a mile away. This is good for when commuting in the winter. Now only if this can be done to manuals.

i want a feature that detects when people door ding your car, then takes a picture of the offending person's car. In my area people have slammed their doors into my accord an ungodly amount of time, and i just pray they're more careful when my S4 comes in.

Trust me. Ppl nowadays wouldn't give a flying fcuk if it's a 89 civic or brand new S4. I usually just try to park further..

My B6 had tilt alarm - it would sound if someone tried to tow, happened several times for me - are you sure the B8 doesn't have that now?
The best alarms are those that transmit to a remote unit to let you konw what's going on with the car and has a remote kill feature. But I would think these new cars these days would be dificult to steal? With all the incryption in the keys and what not?

If someone wants to steal your car, it will be done no matter which security system you have. Not suggesting that aftermarket alarms are a waste of money, just saying... There were numerous times when I saw cars with going off alarms on flatbeds - it might raise an eye, but noone calls police or does anything; people assume everything is fine.

    Great choice!

I often find myself torn between buying something for my S4, or purchasing a new "theft deterrent system.," but I must say, the theft deterrent systems usually get my vote.
Now I am stuck with a ton of these theft deterrent systems, and a stock S4! ...I cant help it
