Ecu tune for 98 1.8t aeb

I have a 98 a4 1.8t and looking to get my ecu tuned by most likely Unitronic, the question I have is how do I know if my car will allow for direct tuning through the obII port or if I need to send my ecu to Unitronic. I called the shop where I'm going to get this done and he said because how old my car is I might need to send in my ecu.

Your AEB is a 557P, and that ecu is not flashable, meaning they need to physically solder the chip to your ecu.

The 557P is flashable. I'm just not sure if tuners give out flashers for it, but it is definitely flashable via OBD. No need to solder.

I believe Unitronic flashes their stage 1 files for that ECU, but they require the ECU to be sent to Canada for the BT files.

You used to be able to check on their website.

So your saying if I get a bt tune I'll need to send it to Unitronic? Because I want to tune my ko3 with Unitronic so it should be flashable through the obII?

I believe that will be a flashable upgrade, but just check unitronics site.
