    Ceramic coating pricing?

I've got a quote from the local ceramic coater and the quote seems to be INSANE. How much does it really cost to get the hot side of a k04 sized turbo coated...? Also, is there any benefit of getting the compressor housing coated?

That is about $295 less than I was quoted. I knew it was bullshit from the beginning.

Someone actually quoted you nearly $500.00 to coat your turbo? Wow, that is insane.... Most turbine housings run in the 50-100 range to Ceramic Coat them. Compressor sides are typically done in powder coating and depending on the types of coating i.e. standard vs. candies, basecoat / clear, etc they can run from 35-100+.

Regarding your turbine housing, you didn’t mention it but this is a good time to note that you NEVER want to use Bright Ceramic Coating on hot side turbo components. It will not survive the temperatures. Hot side turbo components require High Temp Ceramic Coatings capable of 2000F+. They look like the ones below left of the bright.

Just a general question. But coating the intake side in "bright" is ok, but the hot side (the polished side in the pic) will be dull when doing ceramic coating. Is that correct or did I read the post wrong?

If you're referring to coating the cold sides in bright ceramic, that is generally not a problem (see below). Even most exhaust parts are not a problem. Turbo temps / back pressure related temps are what cause problems for the bright as they are usually beyond the temp thresholds of bright. Non - bright, high temp materials are not a problem in that they are good for 2000F+.

That particular turbo set up appears to either chrome plated of polished stainless on the hot side. Either way it's unlikely to stay that pretty for long. Teh cold side is powder coated which should not be a problem either.

My favorite too, stuff is brutal!
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.
